On the 9th, the day before the start of the Natsu basho, a ceremony was
held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo to present the yusho plaque. Ozeki
Aonishiki , who won the January tournament, was absent after it was decided
at the torikumi scheduling meeting on the 8th that he would be absent from
the tournament. In his place, his Oyakata, Ajigawa attended. When asked
about the Ozeki's condition, he explained, "He is currently focusing on
treatment." He has not even come down to the keiko-ba. Regarding Natsu
basho in which he will be kadoban, Ajigawa said, "I'm sorry to those who
are looking forward to seeing him, but he will prioritize recovering so
that he can show everyone his healthy self as soon as possible."
Ajigawa the stand- in and Kirishima (also got his yusho plaque) at the
ceremony.
