To: Sumo Newsletter2 <sumo-newsletter2 at googlegroups.com>
Regarding Aonishiki, his Oyakata Ajigawa explained on the 7th that "we are
moving in the direction of him participating in Natsu. That hasn't
changed." The final decision will be made after taking into account the
results of a thorough medical examination. This tournament is his first
time being kadoban, and a makekoshi will send him to Sekiwake next Basho.
Aonishiki fractured his left little toe last basho when he was aiming for
Yokozuna, and had his first makekoshi in his 16th tournament since his
professional debut. He resumed sumo training at the end of April and had
been rapidly adjusting his training in preparation for this tournament, but
then he injured his ankle as well during degeiko. On this day, no keiko and
he focused on treatment.
