Funny guy Ichiyamamoto at it again. He defeated Sekiwake Kotoshouhou by
yorikiri, bringing his record to 5 wins and 5 losses. He took advantage of
Kotoshouhou's pulling, getting a left-hand outside grip, went for a
dashinage, and then shifted his body position. He then pushed forward and
forced him out of the dohyo. "I think my body is moving well," he said,
expressing his confidence. Looking ahead to the final stages of the
tournament, he said, "I'm getting tired, but everyone is in the same boat.
I hope I can do my best without making excuses. I want to keep the feelings
I had on the first day in mind." In the dressing room, he passed Asanoyama,
with whom he has a close relationship. He made eye contact with Asanoyama
when he saw him coming out of the bath, and they smiled at each other (cue
romantic music). His eyes were drawn to Asanoyama's hair, and he used the
word "tenpa," meaning naturally curly hair, to make the reporters laugh,
saying, "I thought, 'Wow, that's some amazing curly hair.'" Asanoyama is
the same age as him and is also in contention for the yusho with an 8-2
record. "I'm inspired by him. We haven't faced each other since Asanoyama
got injured in Nagoya two years ago, so I'd like to do it," he said,
showing his enthusiasm. "Of course, I won't go easy on him then." Though he
said it jokingly, there was power in his words. He has brought his win-loss
record back to even and will head into the final stages of the tournament
with the same mindset as on day 1.
