The Natsu Jungyo  concluded today at Arena Tachikawa Tachihi in Tokyo. Tour
director Takadagawa (former Sekiwake Akinoshima) praised the rikishi,
saying, "Everyone did a great job with both keiko and fan service." This
jungyo visited 27 venues over 28 days, including the Tohoku region. "The
jungyo allows us to interact with the audience. It isn't isn't about making
money. It's about letting people see sumo up close and promoting it. Along
with the main tournaments, the jungyo is an important job. I hope that even
one new person will become interested in sumo," he revealed. This was his
first summer jungyo since transferring from the judging department after
this year's Haru Basho, and he reflected, "I had heard that there used to
be a lot of dropouts, but there weren't that many this time." He also highly
praised Ura. After seeing him participate in asageiko every day, he praised
his perfect attendance, saying, "Ura did a great job. He came every single
day without missing a single one." On this day as well, he actively
participated in bouts with Hiradoumi, Kotoeihou and others. Considering his
age of 34, Takadagawa said, "I tell him not to overdo it, but he did a
great job." Upon hearing this, Ura himself expressed his gratitude, saying,
"I'm very grateful."

With the conclusion of the Jungyo, Yokozuna Oonosato expressed a sense of
fulfillment, saying it had been "long." Yokozuna Houshouryuu was absent due
to a right knee injury. As the sole Yokozuna, he performed the dohyo-iri
and other duties, expressing his hope that "this is an opportunity for
people who don't usually get to see sumo to become interested in it." He
cited the jungyo in Shinjo City, Yamagata Prefecture on the 8th as his most
memorable experience. He recalled with a smile that it was "so hot" because
there was no air conditioning around the dohyo or in the dressing rooms,
making it "a memorable experience." Although he finished the Nagoya
tournament with a 9-6 record, he explained that his injured left shoulder
is "getting better." Looking ahead to the Aki Basho which begins on the
13th, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I will thoroughly work on my
lower body. The first day is important, so I want to train hard in
preparation for it."

Asahakuryuu  received a "tough love" butsugari session from Ozeki
Kirishima. He was singled out by the Ozeki towards the end of the keiko. He
fell to the ground many times, his whole body covered in sand. At one
point, he tumbled out of the dohyo, putting his hands on his knees and
staggering, but still clung to the Ozeki. On the final day of the 28-day
tour, he received some leadership from his fellow Mongolian senior. "I
thought I would be singled out for a 'treatment', but I never imagined it
would be on the last day," he said, surprised, but added, "I was doing it
thinking that it would make me stronger." At the Nagoya tournament, he
finished with a losing record of 7 wins and 8 losses as Maegashira 12E. He
vowed to "do my best to get a kachikoshi" at the Aki Basho, which starts on
the 13th.
