Asanoyama, a Toyama Prefecture native and ranked East Maegashira 10, spoke
of his feelings for his hometown, which was hit by heavy rains. His
maternal grandmother lives in Himi City, which was severely affected.
"They're okay. My family home (in Toyama City) is also fine," he said,
confirming his family's safety. He said he learned about the damage through
online news and was worried after seeing images and videos of the extensive
damage. There was also the Kumamoto earthquake in July. "We rikishi can't
help, but the September tournament is starting, so I want to show sumo that
can give people energy." He added, "I love Toyama Prefecture, so I want to
do something to help my hometown." He achieved 9 wins at the Nagoya
tournament, and is expected to face higher-ranked opponents at the Autumn
tournament "If I keep winning, I'll face stronger opponents, and I think
that's a great opportunity. I think this tournament will be tougher than
the last one, but I want to do my own style of sumo," he said with
determination.

Yoshinofuji made his presence felt during asageiko today. He even won six
consecutive bouts, livening up the dohyo. At one point, after throwing a
rikishi from the right, he stepped back from the dohyo, seemingly concerned
about his right shoulder, but quickly returned and resumed keiko. He was
critical of his performance, saying, "It's no good at all. My legs aren't
moving." Regarding his right shoulder, he explained, "I felt a sharp pain.
I don't know if it's pain or muscle soreness. I trained yesterday as well,
so I think it's probably muscle soreness. I will do my best to get a
kachikoshi and return to Sanyaku as soon as possible," he said, again.
