With Typhoon No. 25 approaching, rikishi scheduled to compete on Day 9 of
the Aki Basho (the 21st) are concerned about potential transportation
disruptions. The typhoon is expected to fall near the Kanto region from
late morning on Day 9, potentially causing delays or suspensions of train
services. Under basho rules, if a rikishi faces train delays or stoppages,
they must contact the *wakaimono-gashira* (senior official in charge of
young rikishi) from their own Ichimon who is stationed at the Kokugikan. If
advance notice is provided, measures can be taken to delay the bout;
however, failing to notify officials results in a forfeit due to lateness.
While rikishi have been accommodated in hotels near Ryogoku during past
typhoon threats, securing rooms is difficult this time due to the overlap
with the "Silver Week" holiday period. Shikihide Oyakata (former Makuuchi
Kitazakura), whose heya is based in Ryugasaki City, Ibaraki Prefecture,
expressed caution, stating, "We won't be staying overnight [in Tokyo], but
I will have them leave early tomorrow."

Isegahama heyamates Takerufuji (27) and Yoshinofuji (25) both secured
victories. Takerufuji, ranked Maegashira 8E, won his fifth bout by
oshitaoshi over Oushuoma. Just as he was finishing interviews in the
east-side shitakubeya, he watched Yoshinofuji’s victory on the monitor.
"I'm glad he won. It was the first time I'd seen him lose five in a row. He
was under a lot of pressure, so we tried to go about our daily lives as
usual; we never talk about sumo at home," he said, showing concern for his
junior from Nihon University. The two share an apartment. Yoshinofuji,
ranked Maegashira 2Wt, claimed his third win by prevailing in an exchange
of throwing techniques against Kotoshouhou; after starting the tournament
with five straight losses, he has bounced back with three consecutive wins.
Yoshinofuji recounted that whenever he returned to their apartment during
the tournament, Takerufuji would cheerfully ask, "What's going on with all
those losses?" "I make sure to come home in high spirits—every day. I eat a
late-night snack in his room before going to sleep," he said. They support
each other as close companions, sometimes even visiting the sauna together
to refresh their minds.

New Sekiwake Fujinokawa (21) defeated Takayasu, Maegashira 2E, after a
fierce bout. With this victory, he secured his fourth straight win,
maintaining a record of two losses. Facing an opponent 15 years his senior,
he engaged in an intense exchange of thrusting and pushing. He kept telling
himself to "stay patient," and when he spotted a momentary opening in
Takayasu's defense, he got a morozashi and forced his opponent out. Wiping
away sweat after the match, which electrified the arena, he remarked, "My
mindset was simply to keep moving forward. As for the quality of my sumo, I
think the results of my training are showing." On the 21st, he will face
Ozeki Kotozakura, who also has a two-loss record. Amidst a crowded field
where eight rikishi share a two-loss record—all chasing the sole leader,
Yokozuna Oonosato, who has only one loss, Fujinokawa expressed his
determination: "I still have matches against top-ranked rikishi ahead of
me. I want to make sure I put in a solid performance."
