Yokozuna Houshouryuu, whose participation in the Aki Basho is in doubt,
worked up a sweat on the 8th at Tatsunami beya in Taito Ward, Tokyo, by
lending his chest to lower-ranked rikishi. He did not wear a supporter on
his right knee, which underwent surgery in late July, and explained his
recovery status, saying, "I wear it when I'm making contact, but it's fine
when I'm doing butsugari. It's much better, and I can put strength into my
legs." At the YDC soken on the 4th, he did not participate in sumo, but
lent his chest to Sekiwake Atamifuji for an extended period during the
final keiko session. The next day, swelling appeared in the injured area,
and he had to take a break from keiko, saying, "When I went to the

Takayasu (36), a top-division sumo wrestler from the Tagonoura stable,
announced on the 8th his intention to participate in the Autumn Grand Sumo
Tournament (starting on the 13th at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo). He injured
his left leg during morning practice at the summer tour held in Kumagaya
City, Saitama Prefecture on August 24th. He was diagnosed with a "left
adductor muscle injury" and had to withdraw, which delayed his training,
but he said, "I will participate. Now it's just a matter of getting my body

Yasuo Nishiki returns as Ozeki, and the lineup of the San'yaku ranks is
super fresh! On this day, he trained for about two hours at his stable in
Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, including sparring with wrestlers from the Sandanme
rank and below, eight times. He was not satisfied with the content, saying,
"I was tired and my movements were poor," but he has been exercising

Aonishiki spoke to reporters at Ajigawa beya in Koto Ward, Tokyo, on the
8th and revealed that he has resumed sumo training. The occasion was him
receiving a kesho-mawashi from BayCurrent, a consulting company
(headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo) that has been sponsoring the Ajigawa
beya to which he belongs since January. The kesho-mawashi is based on the
flag of the Ozeki's home country, Ukraine, with the top being blue and the
bottom yellow, and his shikona written horizontally. Aonishiki, who
attended the presentation ceremony held at the stable in Koto-ku, Tokyo
along with his Oyakata  Ajigawa expressed his gratitude, saying, "It's
unusual to have my shikona written horizontally. I like simple things, so
it's wonderful." BayCurrent provides a wide range of consulting services to
major corporations and government agencies. Aonishiki, who has an injury to
his left leg, began practicing sumo with the lower-ranked rikishi of his
heya from today in preparation for the Aki Basho. With little time left, he
had about 20 bouts and says his "movements aren't bad." A yusho victory
parade was planned around his stable on the 6th to celebrate, but it was
canceled due to bad weather. The Ozeki said, "It's a shame, but I hope I
can win again and do it then." He will use this as motivation to win
