On the 5th, Hiradoumi trained at his heya in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, in
preparation for the Natsu basho. He had 27 bouts against Yokozuna
Houshouryuu , who came for degeiko, and won 7 and lost 20. After finishing
his intense training with the Yokozuna, Hiradoumi looked at the dohyo with
a look of self-reflection. He recalled that he got out of breath midway
through the bouts against Houshouryuu, who was going through the bouts one
after another at a fast pace, and that he couldn't move as he wanted. "The
Yokozuna was going about it at a fast pace, and by the time I wiped my
sweat off he was already in the dohyo, which I thought was amazing. I lack
stamina. I lack concentration," he said, listing his weaknesses. However,
there were several instances where he didn't focus on getting a hold of his
opponent's mawashi at the tachiai, but instead charged in and went for the
win. "Since it was practice, I thought I should just go for it. When I'm
going to be against a Yokozuna, I get nervous thinking about what would
happen if I couldn't win a single bout, but I gain confidence by attacking
and winning quickly," he said, indicating he gained a valuable experience.
There are five days left until the Basho. "My physical condition is fine,
so it's just a matter of my mental state now. When I get discouraged, the
results are always bad, so I want to approach keiko with confidence," he
said with a determined expression.
