Ozeki Kotozakura worked up a sweat with basic exercises. He has not done
any sumo at all on this jungyo, which began on the 2nd of this month and
has only one day left, but he said, "I am doing what I need to do while
keeping an eye on the condition of my body. It would be best if I could get
on the dohyo, but there are other things I can do even if I can't. On the
contrary, I think this is the time to get the basics back in order." As a
figurehead of sumo, he also played a part in making the tour exciting.
Before the practice bouts by the Sanyaku rikishi, he called out Makushita
Mineyaiba who is a local boy from Soka City, and repeatedly offered his
chest for butsugari. He showed consideration by saying, "This was a venue
where he could get support, so I hope people will remember his name,"he
explained. He also mounted the dohyo for the children's sumo after
asageiko, exciting the crowd. In the last tournament, he avoided demotion
with an 8-7 record. Looking ahead to the Aki Basho, which will mark a fresh
start, he calmly stated, "I just need to stay focused, prepare properly,
and do my best."

We don't hear much about Daieishou. He usually does not cause much interest
in the media. But here goes: Daieishou (32), who is certain to return to
Sanyaku for Aki basho thrilled the locals in Soka City today.. He is from
Asaka City in the same prefecture. He received particularly loud applause
and cheers during keiko and keiko with children, and said with
determination, "I'm happy that so many people are calling out to me.
They're my neighbors, after all (laughs). As long as I'm still active, I
want to work hard and aim higher." During this tour, he is receiving
guidance from Kimigahama Oyakata (former Sekiwake Okinoumi), who is
accompanying the Jungyo as a shinpan. He is strengthening his upper body,
including attempting 50 push-ups. Kimigahama was also the opponent against
whom he won his first yusho in the January 2021 tournament, and he said,
"I'm grateful. I'm getting older these days, so it's a new challenge." At
the Nagoya tournament, where he competed as Maegashira 4E, he achieved
double-digit wins for the first time in four tournaments. "I want to train
hard and do my best," he said, preparing for the basho.
