Fujinokawa's diagnosis was made public- he has a cervical disc herniation.
Due to their rankings, the media has focused more on Oonosato's injury and
subsequent withdrawal, but on social media, many have expressed concern for
Fujinokawa, with comments such as, "I'm worried about the Yokozuna, but I'm
also worried about Fujinokawa's neck," "He's been doing so well so far, I
hope it doesn't get any worse," and "It seems that damage is especially
hard on a small body." Fujinokawa is small, standing at 177 cm tall and
weighing 121 kg, but he has gained popularity for his straightforward sumo
style, where he confronts larger opponents head-on. However, this style
always carries the risk of accumulating physical damage, and in the past,
quite a few rikishi have suffered serious injuries as a result. Given the
location of his injury this time, it's safe to say that if it worsens, it
could be even more serious than Oonosato's injury. As the youngest rikishi
in Makuuchi (21 years old) during the Haru Basho, Fujinokawa is expected to
further improve his skills and popularity. For that reason, many fans are
hoping that his career won't be disrupted by this injury.
