Subject: [Sumo news] - Houshouryuu and Kirishima

The jungyo arrived in Tachikawa, Tokyo today. Yokozuna Houshouryuu appeared
for asageiko with extensive tape on his left shoulder. He did not enter the
dohyo but instead did some light exercises. He was seen chatting with the
jungyo director, Sakaigawa Oyakata. When he injured his shoulder during
the jungyo in Niigata City on the 23rd, he felt like his shoulder was
"floating," but emphasized that his shoulder is much better and is
recovering. He competed in a match against Yokozuna Oonosato. Since being
promoted to Yokozuna, he has withdrawn from two of the three basho,
including the Nagoya basho, due to an injury to his left big toe, which
forced him to withdraw from the tournament on the fifth day. He also sat
out the early part of the jungyo. Looking ahead to Aki, he said, "The
summer jungyo will end in three days, but I have trained enough so far. I
want to take care of my body." His Oyakata, former Komusubi Asahifuji, said
on the 7th, "We'll wait and see." Houshouryuu, who repeatedly said, "I have
no choice but to do it," is carefully adjusting his schedule.
The jungyo arrived in Tachikawa, Tokyo, today where Sekiwake Kirishima had
12 bouts with sekitori . He temporarily withdrew from the tour on the 12th
due to an injury to his right wrist. Although an examination revealed a
cracked bone, he rejoined the jungyo on the 25th and began doing sumo on
the 27th. "I think I need to take it little by little. It's still difficult
to push away, but I'm fine with grabbing the mawashi." Despite still
wearing a brace on his right elbow and still not fully recovered, he had
the most bouts of any sekitori on the day, facing opponents like Hakuouhou
and Kusano, whom he lost to at the Nagoya basho. While he had a good record
of 8-2 through the 10th day of the Nagoya basho, he ended up with five
consecutive losses due to poor health towards the end of the tournament. He
will continue training with an eye on Aki Basho as he moves closer to
returning to Ozeki.
