Finally, here's my stab at translating the easy story (corrections welcome):
Some news of unusual sumo.
In Aomori Prefecture, on the 17th, there was a "Nemari Sumo" tournament,
where participants are on their knees."Nemari" is a word in Aomori
Prefecture's Tsugaru dialect meaning "to sit".
Samurai in the Edo period began this style of sumo to strengthen their
bodies in the winter.
Twenty children participated in this tournament, held in Hirosaki City,
and they gave it their all.
One boy who participated said "Maintaining balance was difficult but
interesting."
