Deputy head of the judging department and riji Isegahama oyakata
(Terunofuji's boss among others..) has resigned from his post as riji after
it became known that two of his deshi (Makushita) were lately regularly
beating up on a third rikishi. No names given, but the victim probably is
veteran Tsubakifuji (34), As for the attackers, no concrete proof about
anyone, maybe bow-twirler Satonofuji is involved. As a result, one of the
two attackers has retired, the other one has been given a two basho
suspension. One of the attackers (probably the guy who was forced to
retire) apparently hit the victim with a wooden plank in April, hit him in
the stomach a few times in July, stepped on him twice, and poured boiling
water down his back. The second attacker punched him in the stomach 4-5
times as well. Isegahama did not report this, and only after some worried
relatives called the Kyokai on November 7th, and the victim himself did so
the next day as well, did an investigation start.. Isegahama demoted
himself from riji and it's the second time he did this-the last time was
back in 2017 after the Harumafuji affair. Whether the victim will choose to
remain in sumo after this remains to be seen.

Ichinojou receives a one-basho suspension for breaking the Covid protocol-
he went out in November 2020 and in August 2021. Juryo for him in March,
effectively. His Oyakata gets a 30% salary cut for not reporting this. OK,
but what about the whole being violent against the Okamisan thingy that
made a lot of noise prior to last basho? It turns out this happened 5 years
ago and the okamisan asked not not to punish him for that. I guess the fact
that Ichinojou immediately confessed he breached the protocol earned him a
rather lenient one-basho suspension, as opposed to the six-month suspension
received by lying Asanoyama..
