[sumo] Technology Helps Athletes Get An Edge

I am so aggravated by the kind of thinking that goes into mandating maximum shoe sole thickness. Thicker soles cushion more so athletes joints feel better longer. That also means their joints are taking less damage. By limiting the sole thickness, they are saying you must take at least "this" much damage while running. So they are explicitly mandating greater injury to the athletes than necessary. Unconscionable. I know how to fix this. Make everyone run barefoot.

They are trying to protect the records as if that is what is most important about the events, as opposed to the actual competition between athletes and countries. And as if the technology of shoes didn't change in all the decades before now. Not to mention all the science that goes into nutrition and training today that did not exist before now.
