RED HAT LAUNCHES LDAP-BASED DIRECTORY SERVER

On June 1, 2005 Red Hat announced the release of the Fedora Directory
Server and Red Hat Directory Server. These announcements are the first
result of over two years of effort planning the extension of the Open
Source Architecture into the area of identity management, providing
technologies which are the foundation of all efficient enterprises.
Additionally, Red Hat has recently renewed a contract with DISA to
manage the largest PKI environment on the planet with over 12,000,000
certificates and millions of directory entries deployed throughout the
DoD.

Authentication

An intensive course that provides four days of instruction and labs on
cross-platform integration of directory services to provide

CALLING ALL CARS-NJ STATE POLICE CHOOSE OPEN SOURCE FOR INTELLIGENCE

In the next year, New Jersey State Police officials hope to have most
county and local law enforcement officials connected to a statewide
searchable system that collects, analyzes and shares criminal and
terrorism-related information while utilizing an open-source
infrastructure.

The Statewide Intelligence Management System (SIMS) began two years ago
and cost about $2 million in state and federal funds. It is developing a
culture of information sharing among law enforcement agencies statewide,
police officials say.

STATE, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO LEVERAGE OPEN SOURCE

While the federal government encourages agencies to consider open source
through software-procurement guidelines and such executive mandates as
the eGovernment Act, local and state governments will more aggressively
push adoption in the long run, turning to VARs to supply the skills
needed to take full advantage.

No longer the taboo alternative, open-source technology is garnering
more attention and consideration by states and local municipalities that
want to save money and secure the availability of data, according to a
recent study by Input, a Reston, Va.-based government research firm.
