Many thanks for these precious memories, Katrina. I didn't know him
nearly as closely -- just seeing him in the street and in the keikoba,
and at all the Senshuraku parties, as a regular member of the Tokyo
Dewanoumi-kai, but I'm still in a state of shock. Always a cheerful
smile and a friendly greeting, for 24 years. And what a responsibility
for Aoiyama, such a young heya-gashira. The first time I spoke to him in
the street after a joint keiko session I told him "I've known your
master since he was a shin-deshi" -- and he said, "Yes, the master told
me."

I tried to go to the wake last Wednesday but felt so groggy I was
worried I might become a burden, changed my mind at Akihabara, and went
home instead.
