Thanks for this, Barbara. Nothing new, but it's nice that the outside world is getting the message.
My own bet for upcoming President is Kyokushuzan, who didn't get nearly as high in sumo, but had a head start,
and started ploughing back his money into charities etc. much earlier.
In Nagoya at the ticket gate I mentioned my thought and Oshima oyakata gave me a nice little nod and a smile.
("You may be right" was how I interpreted it.) I love them both.

But I may be out of date. It is exactly six years since the end of my third trip to Mongolia with three different Habitat for Humanity teams.
At that time, the number two man in the Japanese embassy in Ulaan Baatar was a great expert on all things Mongolian, Shimizu Takenori.
On each of my visits he spared a day (or half a day) to drive me around to see the real life in Mongolia. This included trips to distant gers
where I manfully drank deep of fermented milk. "This may be dangerous for foreigners" he said,
to which I could only reply, "In all my life I have many times been offered things in hospitality,
and I have never suffered ill." He duly interpreted this and everybody relaxed.

As of last week this remarkable man has been designated Japan's next ambassador to Mongolia.
I am just hoping that I can invite him to lunch before he goes.
