>At one point I did recommend yourself for a feature article on foreigners involved in sumo in the Yomiuri when they approached abut 3 / 4 years ago, as I couldn't do it, but they wanted a person with real hands-on experience on the dohyo even as an amateur so it eventually went to John Gunning.
They could have asked David Shapiro, who actively did sumo at one time, and has been an MHK commentator, specializing in technique, since the start of the programme. But John Gunning's expoereince was more recent and I'm sure he did a great job.
> Think you can see that feature on the Sumo Forum somewhere.
>Coincidentally I will be speaking to a lady who knows you from the Asiatic Society this afternoon. Recall hearing / reading you spoke there about 10 years ago? Fingers crossed.
Yes, I spoke on "Samurai to Cyberspace -- Sumo adapts to the changing times" I believe. Don't remember how many years ago, but it's on the website.
I've been on the Council since 2000, though as I am no scholar my only claim to fame is that I computerized the Bulletin.
