good day all,
just a friendly reminder that there are only 36 hours left to submit an entry for 2009.
torchbearer is possibly the easiest game to keep up with because
it's a low-maintenance game. you don't have to work on daily picks. and you don't even have to make adjustments each basho. and i don't think there's a statistics program that could be used to give some players the edge.... just one rank pick, and one rikishi pick predicting where the torch will finish in november is all you need to play this game for a whole year! it's easy.

as a reminder, here are the rules:

the "torch" will start with the last rikishi and last rank on the 2009 HATSU BANZUKE (HIGASHI and JONOKUCHI 29 EAST) this rikishi/rank will pass the torch to whoever defeats him during the tournaments (torch match). your task is to pick one rank and one rikishi that you think will be holding the torch at the end of the year.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:
3 points for every torch match your chosen rikishi wins.
3 points for every torch match your chosen rank wins.
1 point for every torch match your chosen rikishi loses.
1 point for every torch match your chosen rank loses.

THEN AT THE END OF THE 2009 KYUSHU BASHO:
25 points if you get the final torch holding rikishi.
25 points if you get the final torch holding rank.
OR (if the exact rank and/or rikishi is not chosen by a participant)...
10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rikishi.
10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rank.

PLUS SOME BONUS POINTS FOR THOSE WHO GET CLOSE TO THE FINAL TORCH POSITION:
10 points if your chosen rikishi is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point.
10 points if your chosen rank is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point.
good day all,
the player with the most points at the end of the year will get a prize.

for historical reference, here's where the torch ended up the last three years:
2006, J2w
2007, Ms33w
2008, J7e

so to enter, please submit:
1) the name of the rikishi you think will finish with the torch at the end of the year (last day of KYUSHU BASHO).
and
2) the rank of the rikishi you think will be holding the torch at the end of the year (last day of KYUSHU BASHO 2009).

you can send to me via e-mail, or respond to the mail list.

thanks to all who have already submitted and i hope the rest of you will play.
