Rikishi Talk - Day 8 - Jonosuke translating
* Yamamotoyama Watch: 7 wins 1 loss. Over Hoshihikari by yorikiri.
Kasugao (0-8) losing to Tamakasuga by hatakikomi, 9.5 sec
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------
(Eighth consecutive loss and Makekoshi)
"I've gone for drinking. I've done training. I've tried everything. Nothing
worked. What should I do now?
Goeido (7-1) over Hokutoriki by hatakikomi, 2.3 sec
----------------------------------------------------------------------
(Pressed to the dohyo edge but smartly turned around to slap Hokutoriki
down)
"He isn't an easy opponent to face at all. He looks at you hard at tachiai,
and he makes it hard to move in. I am happy I could beat him today."
(With only one loss, still tied with Hakuho and Ama)
"I am not particularly thinking about being on the top. More than anything,
I am looking to get one more win.)
Ama (7-1) over Kotomitsuki by hatakikomi, 4.6 sec
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Hitting Kotomitsuki head-on and never letting him get to his right, went
after him with an Ottsuke from left. Then after moving to Tsuppari and
finished him off with a clean slapdown though Ama himself was not happy with
the move."
"After I got into Tsuppari, I wanted to get myself into a favorable position
and then I wanted to grab the mawashi. But I couldn't. I wanted not to
really think about a lot after going into Tsuppari but...."
(10th basho as a Sanyaku and winning 10 bouts the last basho, he needs to
win several more than the last to build the good foundation for ozeki
promotion. Perhaps with an yusho?)
"Are you kidding? I am not even thinking of any yusho race.)
Isegahama oyakata (former Yokozuna Asahifuji), Ama's shisho
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
(On Ama)
"His sumo this basho has been to push his opponent up at tachiai before he
goes on to unbalance him. When his physique matures further, his sumo will
gradually change for better."
Baruto (2-6) losing to Chiyotaikai by hikiotoshi, 2.9 sec
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Unable to get the mawashi, getting wiped out)
"Ah...if I were around 2 meter 7 cm tall, I could have reached it..."
Hakuho (7-1) over Aminishiki by tsukiotoshi, 1.9 sec
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Henka or no henka, will take them all)
"I was able to respond quickly. I figured he might come with one. Anyway I
was thinking of setting my own position."
Toyonoshima (4-4) over Asashoryu by yorikiri, 24.5 sec
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Two consecutive wins against Asashoryu for Might Mouse Noshima)
"It was just an incredibly great timing. I am responding so well."
"The last time, it was by a desperate move. This time I won by going against
him aggressively so it will give me more confidence."
Asashoryu (5-3) losing to Toyonoshima
------------------------------------------------------
(Called by the today's Chief Dohyo judge Mihogaseki for stepping out of the
dohyo but did not realize initially and still kept going. When he was told
of the loss, stared hard at him.)
"I thought I stayed in. What is this? I can't understand it at all."
(Created quite a stir when he came back to the dressing room and asking
reporters and tsukebito and even to Ama in Mongolian)
"Was I out or not? Which was it, you bastard?"
(Just like the old time Asashoryu, not taking a loss easily, his fighting
spirit appeared to be still with him. In the bath room, screaming)
"Daah...."
(As exiting the Kokugikan)
"I am still not satisfied even though I haven't looked at the video yet.
Right now my head is blank, I don't know what to say anymore."
Mihogaseki oyakata, Chief Dohyo judge
------------------------------------------------------
"The sand outside the line had about 1 cm hole. Whether he likes it or not,
a loss is a loss. There is no point in staring at me. It happened just right
in front of myself, so don't be idiotic and ask me to confirm it by video
reply!"
Shonosuke Kimura, Tate-gyoji
----------------------------------------
"Asashoryu was screaming on the dohyo, he stayed in..."
==============
The Kyokai had a special press conference on September 21 to explain their
decision to dismiss Roho, Hakurozan and Wakanoho by concluding it was an
"appropriate measure".
"We have cautioned them in no uncertain term regarding substance abuse at
our anti-doping meeting held in February. I feel very disappointed as well
as having a sense of deep regret. I'd like to offer our sincere apology to
our fans," Musahigawa oyakata, Kyokai chairman said.
"Substance abuse is an anti-social behavior and by permitting it we may be
considered to be endorsing its use. We believe they have a committed a
serious violation that damages the trust and honor of the Kyokai so we
believe our action cannot be deemed to be heavy-handed," Katsuhiko Imano,
Kyokai's lawer said.
The Kyokai also mailed back their responses to a letter of inquiry submitted
by Yasuo Shionoya, lawyer representing Roho and Hakurozan. On the question
of second hand smoke possibility, the Kyokai responded that the numbers
shown clearly indicated a self direct use. On another point on another
rikishi may have had a positive indication on his first try, the Kyokai's
Anti-Doping Committee's Shohei Onishi (Keio University Professor and Japan
Anti-Doping Organization Committee member) said,"We actually judged it to be
negative. However the marking was too faint so we asked him to do the second
additional test."
Regarding one sekitori who was away on the test day due to illness, Isenoumi
oyakata, chairman of the Kyokai's Prevention Committee, said they would
continue with unannounced testing and the rikishi will be a part of the
testing.
"We have not received their document yet so I cannot say one way or another
but if we find it to be unsatisfactory, we will be asking them to void their
dismissal decision," Shionoya, attorney for Roho and Hakuroza, said.
