Rikishi Talk - Day 6 - Reported by Jonosukie:

Yamamotoyama (Juryo East 12, 6-0) over Kirinowaka by kotenage
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
(Already a talk of Juryo yusho)
"Please don't put too much pressure on me."
(Showing more dexterity with his moves too)
"Now you all know I am not just a fat boy."

Kokkai (5-1) over Tamanoshima by yorikiri, 51.4 sec
-------------------------------------------------------------
(Notching his fifth win after undergoing a surgery for his irregular heart
beat last month)
"I feel I am gradually gaining back my strength. But I still can't generate
as much power like I used to."

Goeido (6-0) over Kotoshogiku by hatakikomi, 1.3 sec
---------------------------------------------------------------
(Getting his sixth win in a row by a slapdown.)
"It was a sudden thing. It worked so well because I stepped in hard. If I
didn't then he would just come after me. You know when you are doing badly,
nothing works for you but when you are doing well, it happens sometimes. But
I feel I have been moving exceptionally well this basho."
"My goal is to get eight straight (winning seven straight as a Juryo the
Haru Basho last year). I will be trying to move one step ahead of my
opponent from now."

Kyokutenho (1-5) losing to Miyabiyama by sukuinage, 14.1 sec
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(Having his frist slapdown "win" negated after the bout was stopped, then
losing by sukuinage eventually)
"They really can't do that. I understand it if clearly the hand did not
touch the ground. But after all the bout was decided already...but then if I
start speaking up more, you all know what will happen to me tomorrow, so I
will keep quiet."
(Asked about his new born daughter)
"Yeah I just got an e-mail about her from my wife. My baby!"

Hanaregoma oyakata, Chief dohyo judge
------------------------------------------------
(On the first tachiai)
"It was a situation where we couldn't be certain if Miyabiyama put his hand
down properly."

Ama (5-1) over Chiyotaikai by yorikiri, 3.0 sec
-----------------------------------------------------
(Downing another ozeki)
"I am happy with the win but I still have to face the top ranking guys so
the next little while will be the key."

Chiyotaikai (4-2) losing to Ama
-------------------------------------
(Suffering his second loss)
"He got me really well. He comes into you, gets your mawashi like that. It
will get you lose your fighting spirit right away. I just couldn't do
anything today."

Kotoohshu (2-4) losing to Kakuryu by hatakikomi, 0.7 sec
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(Losing his fourth and no response to questions from reporters)
"......"

Kotomitsuki (5-1) over Kisenosato by yoritaoshi, 5.3 sec
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(Needed three shikiri to get into the bout)
"I haven't changed my strategy to go for the right uwate at all from the
first shikiri. I went after it right after I jumped out."

Hakuho (5-1) over Tochinonada by yorikiri, 3.6 sec
------------------------------------------------------------
(Did not have the loss on the previous day to drag on)
"Today I was moving forward."
(On the loss yesterday)
"I don't think I was really concerned about losing especially but perhaps
thought, 'I haven't lost for a while'. Maybe just thinking something like
that, you know. But then I wanted to tell myself what I was thinking. It
turned out to be a good medicine after all."

Aminishiki (3-3) over Asashoryu by okuridashi, 2.8 sec
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Executing a perfect henka fooling Asashoryu to earn his 6th kinboshi)
(Got concerned about Asashoryu firmly planting his hand on the dohyo at the
shikiri.)
"I got worried as I figured he would just hit his hand down like yesterday.
So it got me thinking what would I do now? And that got me totally off my
strategy and it turned out to go that way. I wanted to go with an Ottsuke
initially but I remembered Kakuryu (a henka win against Kotooshu today). I
guess it worked so well because I went out hard."

Asashoryu (4-2) losing to Aminishiki
-------------------------------------------
(Intentionally displaying his hands touching the dohyo after so many
criticisms were received overr his non-touch flying shikiri on the
Kisenosato bout but that gave an impetus for Aminishiki to resort to a
henka)
"I am not responding well to my opponent's move. I believe I showed a good
tachiai today. He just fooled me well. Even though I did a good shikiri, the
result wasn't good."

(A response to a comment he made yesterday may have been a factor to show
that he could do a proper tachiai)
"They have to understand they can't just come in and tell us to do that in a
certain way immediately. I want them to make a presentation at our post
basho Rikishi-kai meeting to explain to us all. That's the normal process. I
can't even figure out what's what anymore. When you get stopped like that,
it takes a lot out of you and you need a lot to get your concentration back.
They haven't explained anything to us rikishi. They sure weren't prepared at
all and they aren't handling this thing well at all.'

Musashigawa oyakata, Kyokai chairman
----------------------------------------------
(Upset and fuming over Asashoryu's comment)
"What is he expecting from us? The rule is there already. A presentation and
explanation at their meeting? Give me a break. Is he kidding or what? We
don't need to explain any of this now. A yokozuna should be ashamed of
himself to utter such nonsense. He should become more aware of his
position."
(Cooling down a bit)
"Ultimately the question should be posed to us. What have we been teaching
them up to now as their instructor and coach? It is up to each shisho and
oyakata to properly teach them at their training session."
