Subject: [sumo] Please update
Greetings Sumoans,
There is much going on in the Sumo world - I can read the sumo forum but
for reasons unknown to me I am unable to participate as I could in the past.
I am locked out and regardless of how carefully I follow instructions to be
allowed to participate in the forum I am ignored. I'm used to this -
dissention has always meant banishment. (Especially if you are a woman, with
no power (economically or politically). In the past I have relied upon the
SML to provide news, opinions and friendly distractions.
I know time is precious to many of the well-informed contributors to the
list, but I beg a tidbit or two. The week before a basho is filled with
intrinsic tension; Please, people with information, share it with us all
over the world. We joined this list for this purpose, not only to be
informed but to share our opinions.
Why is it acceptable to post on the sumo forum and not on the mailing
list???? Why is the forum so unfriendly in terms of posting???? "This is a
man's world" (James Brown) and it continues internationally on the internet
and on the sumo list,forum.
To me, the spirit of the internet is one of inclusion. The sumo forum world
does not embrace this. It is unfriendly and daunting. God forbid you evoke
the anger or challenge the manhood of the powers that be. (This does NOT
include Joe Klemmer or the many folk who share and invite us all to their
sites.).
I have special respect for Doreen Simmons who is not only one of the most
knowledgable and generous sources we have for those of us who can only
experience internet and video sumo (Can't afford to go to Japan) but who is
able to find time in her very busy professional and personal life to extend
herself to people like me)
The bottom line for me is: Please: post to the mailing list. Not just the
usual statistical stuff: "If he makes it to Megashira 3 he will be the 15th
rikishi to do so more than 5 times in 6 years".
Maybe we need a female sumo list where the boring details will be gobbled
up, digested and discussed.
Huzayomama
NOT a victim
As always, dissenting, curious, and hoping to be part of, not excluded
from the good old boys society.
