Tochinonada (1-2) over Kakizoe by yoritaoshi
------------------------------------------------------
(Getting his first win after losing at the dohyo edge
two days straight)
"I will lose for sure if I try to display a clean
yorikiri. I know for sure if I fall all over him, I
won't lose."
"As a whole, I think I have been moving well so far. Now
that at least I got my first win, mentally I can go out
more relaxed."
Dejima (3-0) over kakuryu by oshidashi
-----------------------------------------------
(Utilizing all his limbs to get his third win)
"While my wheels are all in sync, I want to get as many
wins as possible. I feel I can generate power naturally
this basho and I think I am moving rather effortlessly."
Miyabiyama (3-0) over Takekaze by yorikiri
---------------------------------------------------
(Enduring two minute long struggles against Takekaze by
holding onto his right mawashi)
"My muscles are pumped up, I can't move my arm. It was
my lifeline. I now know what Mr. Kishi (MVP pitcher of
the Japan Baseball Series just completed) felt like "
(Even after the long bout, hardly becoming breathless,
proving enough daily training sessions can make a
difference.)
"When I got my name called by the gyoji after the bout,
I felt so grateful I joined Musashigawa Beya."
Baruto (1-2) over Goeido by hatakikomi
----------------------------------------------
(His first win as sekiwake)
"I was getting real tense, wanting so desperately to get
a win. But you know when you win one, you feel so much
better."
Kisenosato (3-0) over Ama by yorikiri
----------------------------------------------
(Totally demolished by Ama during training sessions
prior to the basho, today deciding to push him out
quickly after grabbing the mawashi.)
"I can do nothing else but that. Today I won by just
about using only my left arm. I can never beat him by
exchanging Tsuppari for so long or doing mawashi play
with him."
"I couldn't stand myself after the sessions, beaten by
him so miserably but I kept a resolve to do something in
a hon-basho. In the first tachiai attempt I felt he
looked pretty tense so that made me feel better in the
second tachiai as I felt like I gained an advantage. For
one thing I always look forward to facing him."
(Suffered intestinal obstruction during the Aki Basho
and was receiving a treatment at a hospital)
"My condition is so much better this basho. Obviously it
would be great if this was my Kachikoshi but I know it
will be a long basho so I will need to keep myself
focused."
Takanohana oyakata, chief dohyo judge
---------------------------------------------
(On Kisenosato)
"If he keeps displaying a sumo like today, I have no
doubt he can reach ozeki one day."
Ama (2-1) losing to Kisenosato
------------------------------------
"I couldn't do anything. It was a total loss. I got out
of tachiai late but I just hit him and did nothing else.
I couldn't move at all."
"But you know I will face Kisenosato again in the next
basho so I will look forward to the opportunity."
"Well anyway there isn't much I can do now. I just have
to come back tomorrow all refreshed."
Isegahama oyakata (former Yokozuna Asahifuji)
--------------------------------------------------------
(On Ama)
"I think he is too tense. Even back in the heya, he
appears to be less talkative than usual and remains too
quiet."
Aminishiki (3-0) over Kotooshu by hikiotoshi
----------------------------------------------------
(Crushing the yokozuna and ozeki to notch three
consecutive wins)
"I started going out by pushing him but I ended up
getting myself too high. Then I figured I could always
step over to one side."
"Anyway I can tell you there was really nothing to it. I
am going out pretty leisurely and I am having a lot of
fun."
"I hope you guys all enjoyed the ride up to now because
this is all coming to an end here."
"But if I can ask for one thing, can you bring in more
people to come see us."
Wakanosato (3-0) over Kaio by oshitaoshi
-------------------------------------------------
(Beating three ozeki in a row since the start of the
basho)
"Three consecutive wins? Well, I never imagined it. I am
hoping I can ride on a good wave now."
(On seeing Kaio leaving holding his arm and obviously
did not want to say anything expecting the worst.)
"I really don't know what happened....what to say..."
(And will be facing Hakuho tomorrow)
"Oh...don't mention it yet. I am still enjoying the win
today."
Kaio (1-2) losing to Wakanosato
--------------------------------------
(Feeling a sharp pain in his left arm trying to put his
hand to Wakanosato's neck and easily rolling out of the
dohyo.)
"I felt like the muscle snapped. I still have some pain
in there. It's such a helpless feeling I have now."
(While icing the left arm and looking down over his
injured right leg)
"Trying to cover one injury and ending up injuring
another....Things don't work out in the way you really
want."
(Asked about a possibility of retiring)
"No, no. I won't. I cannot be satisfied with a
performance like this. I don't even get a chance to
display what I am capable of. It's not that I am losing
because I lost power. I just need to get my injuries
healed first, properly and fully. I can only retire if I
am convinced I had put out all and feel I can leave with
no regret".
Tomozuna oyakata (former Sekiwake Kaiki), Kaio's shisho
--------------------------------------------------------
------------
(Planning to discuss the future with Kaio on November
12)
"Basically what I'd like to do is to ascertain what his
real feeling is considering all his injuries he has."
"Even if you are looking at him from side, you know
physically he is reaching the limit, physically breaking
down all over. I don't want him to go through another
Kadoban honestly. However if he really wants to
continue, there is an option of resting his body and
giving the time to heal his injuries. Anyway I think
everything is all up to what happens tomorrow morning."
Takanohana oyakata, chief dohyo judge
----------------------------------------------
"Hopefully he can exert all his intensity to do his
best."
Toyonoshima (2-1) over Chiyotaikai by sukuinage
--------------------------------------------------------
----
(Downing his second ozeki)
"I had my left arm in so I decided to go with a throw
with everything I had."
(Now having 6 win - 1 loss against Chiyotaikai and will
be facing another ozeki, Kotooshu tomorrow.)
"All I can do is to do my best."
Hakuho (2-1) over Futeno by yorikiri
-------------------------------------------
(Feeling more at ease by winning two straight.)
"I was trying to go out without rushing myself too much.
Since yesterday I feel I am managing the bout in my own
way."
==============
Former Ozeki Tochiazuma, Tochiazuma oyakata, 32, of
Tamanoii Beya announced his engagement to a former
office worker Yuki Morita, 31, on November 11. The
wedding is planned on February 11 next year at a Tokyo
area hotel.
He first met Yuki two years ago and he says she has been
at his side providing him encouragement through his
retirement. "She has been a great help for me. She is
really attentive," Tochiazuma said. "My old man will be
retiring in September next year and I will be taking
over so I figured it's about the time I should settle
down. She is not familiar with the sumo world but I want
to help her along in her 'Okamisan' role. I thought she
could get a head start now," the oyakata said. "I hope
she can not only help build a good family life but can
also help support the heya and become a good role model
for all our young rikishi."
========
Yokozuna Asashoryu showed up in Takasago Beya's training
grounds for the first time in four days by resuming his
workout. On this day he only managed to do light
exercises like shiko and lending his chest to younger
rikishi but he indicated he would participate in the
winter jungyo coming up.
"I want to get my injury healed completely and prepare
myself for the next basho," Asashoryu said. "I don't
have any sharp pain in my elbow but I feel it's still
tender." Otherwise he says he feels he is in good
condition and says he is maintaining his regular weight
of 147 or 148 kg.
He added he spent 10 days in wilds, living in tent while
he was back in Mongolia "You know like catching a deer
and cooking it, washing my face in river water etc. It's
a survivalist regimen, I wanted to train myself
mentally."
