Many thanks for finding a quote to illustrate my point perfectly.  "As
a result he pulled out of the tournament on Friday."  That being the
Friday when the days 1 and 2 torikumis are released, and thereby the
latest date possible for his withdrawal.  Up to that point he had been
helping with the ticket sales.

I think Asashoryu could have done the same this basho...  Do you disagree?
