And speaking of Japanese fads, who remembers the 'erimakkitokage' (not  
sure about the romanized spelling -- it translates to 'frilled lizard'.)

Possibly from:  eri = neck;  makki = deep red;  tokage = lizard

This little Australian creature was all the rage in Japan in about 1980.
