The video shows that Asashoryu was out of line, giving Hakuho an
extra shove in the middle of his back while he was down. Hakuho,
in return, gave Asashoryu an elbow to the chest as he was getting
up.
It could be interpreted as boys being boys, not exemplifying the
behavior of Yokozuna. It could be interpreted as the cusp of
competitive spirit, overflowing from combatants at the top of the
game, and Asashoryu wearing his emotions of relief and victory on
his shove.
If the former, Asashoryu was the instigator at the end. Or perhaps
YW Hakuho was the instigator from the beginning, not showing proper
respect to YE Asashoryu during staredowns prior to the tachi-ai.
In any event, this spiciness will surely drive up interest and
ticket sales for the next basho. In my opinion, there is no way
that either Yokozuna will be suspended, as the Kyokai is about the
money.
Will the Yokozuna or the bamboo spear Oyakata receive a stricter
warning?
