Quotes from Day 13 (Madorosumaru)
-----
Hakuho: (Defeated abjectly by a sad sack ozeki) I don't want to use
injury as an excuse, but I wasn't quite up to task. I just couldn't keep
up with the pace of the bout.
Asashoryu: (Sounding like an echo after losing even more ignominiously
to another sad sack ozeki) The desire was there but the body just
wouldn't follow.
Kotooshu: (Back to status quo ante after suffering his first loss at the
hands of wily Aminishiki) [. . .]
More Osh: (Pearls of wisdom after ignoring the gathered media for a very
long time] Today is today. Tomorrow is tomorrow.
Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Pontificating the obvious) I think he over-stressed
the importance of this bout.
Isegahama Oyakata: (On Osh's indecision at tachi-ai) Any uncertainty
will manifest itself in the tachi-ai.
Sadogatake Oyakata: (Explaining his deshi's tachi-ai) We thought [Ami]
would come up with a henka.
Even more Osh: (Smiling disingenuously after heya-mate upset Hakuho) I
am going to only think of winning for myself.
Aminishiki: (Fulfilling his own prophesy by sabotaging the Telephone
Pole) It was a good tachi-ai. I was able to do my sumo all the way.
More Ami: (Speaking with tongue in cheek about his role as a spoiler) I
hate wearing the black hat.
Ama: (Defeating personal nemesis Kotoshogiku) I was really spirited up.
I think I can stay in a good flow for the remaining two days.
More Ama: (Jumping excitedly out of the bath upon hearing of Mon Ami's
big win) I am all fired up and raring to go [against Osh tomorrow]. The
outcome of the yusho race is up to me.
Kisenosato: (Ambivalent about his victory over Kakuryu) I'm really glad
[I got kachi-kochi]. I'm still a bit uncertain at the tachi-ai. I am
thinking too much. I need to do more penetrating sumo. Now, I'm going
after double-digit wins.
Toyonoshima: (Losing a close two-minute-plus battle against Homasho at
dohyo edge) [Wakanoho expletive] I am so upset.
More Toyo: (Unfavorable gyoji decision sustained after mono-ii) I felt I
wasn't down yet [when my aite stepped out]. I am frustrated and p.o.'d.
That's all I have to say.
Homasho: (Salvaging the bout with a last-moment pull-down) I got
out-pushed. If I didn't do the hataki [sic] at that point, I would have
lost. I want to do good sumo [for the last two days] and win double-digits.
Tamanoshima: (Achieving KK after having watched heya-mate Tamaasuka win
the makushita yusho) I could palpably sense his tenseness shift onto me.
Robo Talk - Takamisakari: (Three straight wins at the brink of
make-koshi) They say I'm a tenacious, never-say-die kind of guy. I'm
physically worn out, so [from now on] it is up to the spirit.
