For those of you who enjoy games, but who may not have noticed, there is a
new game which is having its first real tournament this basho. There was a
pilot last basho, and about 22 players joined. The feedback was generally
pretty good.

As this is the first real round of the game, it's a good opportunity to get
yourself on the top of the banzuke. For those of us who are frustrated with
attempts to de-throne the long-established players in other games, you might
want to give it a try.

The game is called Sumo Market Game, and the idea is to use your game money
to make bets on "markets", which are events in the basho (eg. Baruto to win
on Day 1). Check out the website at www.sumomarketgame.com and browse the
Rules and FAQ. There you'll also find a link to the game engine site.

You have to register a username and password before you play the game for
the first time. The system will send a confirmation mail to your email
address, which is needed to activate your account. (Often, users find that
confirmation email goes to their spam folder, so before you register you
can add the address admin at inklingmarkets.com to your "safe" list, or just
keep an eye on your junk folder.

The game is unique because you can join the game at any point during the
basho and still have a good chance of performing well. It is conceivable for
a player to join the basho on Day 15, but still be among the best
performers. Also, you don't have to play every day, but it will probably be
more fun if you do. If you are away for a day or two here and there, it will
not significantly hurt your chances of winning. So it's flexible.

Check it out.
