Compiled and translated by Madorosumaru:

***********

Asashoryu: (Trying to explain the inexplicable) I messed up the
tachi-ai. I got stretched out a bit. I should have grabbed the right
overarm uwate hold but I couldn't. I saw Hakuho lose and felt less
pressure, but . . .

More Ryu: (Letting out a primordial scream in the bathroom) I am
really frustrated and angry. I really wanted to win them all.

Kotoshogiku; (Using his famous gaburi-yori to hand Asashoryu his
first defeat) My mind was a total blank. I don't remember much. I
knew I had won because of the roar of the crowd. Just think, the
yokozuna was hot and in pursuit of yusho. I am so happy. (repeated a
dozen times)

Hakuho: (Victimized by Chiyotaikai's pull to lose his second) I felt
something strange [prior to tachi-ai]. I knew something was up and
still fell for it . . .

Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Watching the goings-on from the helm of good ship
Ozumo Maru) Now, there are three of them with only one loss behind
the leader. Of the two yokozuna defeats, I think the one by Asashoryu
hurts more.

More Hakuho: (Thanking his lucky star for Asashoryu's unforeseen
gift) I guess now I still have a chance.

Chiyotaikai: (A furious nodowa attack followed by a well-timed pull
sends the yokozuka flying out of the ring) My [injured] right arm
didn't even feel like it was part of me. I just stood there
dumb-founded as I watched his back [on his way out].

Miyabiyama: (Winning an extended slap-fest against GNH Kisenosato) It
got heated out there. I think the other guy lost the game of chicken.

Kisenosato: (Angry and frustrated mostly at himself) Aarrgh. I
shoulda-coulda endured more [of that slap attack]. That showed I
still have a ways to go.

Toyonoshima: (In awe of the veteran battler Blobmonster) When we see
sumo like that, we young lions need to realize that we have to
gambarize some more.

Tochiozan: (One of the three still in the yusho race) I felt good
even before the basho and was aiming for double-digit wins. I am on a
real high right now.

Kitanonada: (Managing to even his record after a disastrous six-loss
start) I am in a positive flow. I didn't think that I could make it
back this far. People are saying the basho should have started later. (laugh)

Wakanoho: (Defeating Kaio for his first ever non-fusen victory over
an ozeki) I really didn't want to use a slap-down . . . but I'm glad
that I won. [What the hey, a win is a win is a win].

Bart Sez

Baruto: (Flinging Futeno after a bit of futzing around) It didn't go
the way I wanted. I was somewhat nervous [due to being in the yusho race].

More Baruto: (Forgetting to pick up his kensho money) I was so happy
I won that I didn't pay any attention to the kensho. Truthfully, I am
quite tired but I am having a lot of fun.

Even more Bart: (On the secret of his success this basho) I've been
going to bed early. (smile and a wink?)

Abbott and Costello Act of the Day

Toyonoshima: (Providing the obligatory straight line to his friend)
Are you really 30 years old?

Miyabiyama: (Fully in his Miya-babe persona) Hey, I am still young
enough to [eat you punks for breakfast] . . .

Quote of the Day

Chiyotaikai: (Ecstatic about escaping kadoban once again) I got
misty-eyed. Today is my mom's birthday. Please write that I am good
to my mother.
