Compiled and Translated by Madorosumaru:

*********

Asashoryu: (His throw was called shitate-nage but it was really a
Mongolian technique) My father liked to use it a lot. I wanted to get
the bout over with fast. My opponent can get pretty tough when he has
hold of the mawashi. My sumo has been quick. And, I have been calm
and collected.

Hakuho: (No problem with the unpredictable Wakanoho) My opponent is
big but he is known to leap and jump on the dohyo. That's why I
watched him carefully as I did my tachi-ai.

More Hakuho: (Looking at the final stretch a length behind) I don't
have that much fatigue. I want to stay in this form to the end. I
have the responsibility as the east yokozuna.

Wakanoho: (His stare-down didn't work against the yokozuna) I really
wanted to win. I've never even had keiko against the two yokozuna.
I'd like to do that during the next jungyo.

Kaio: (Losing quite passively against fellow veteran Chiyotaikai) I
never thought he would come charging out like that. It just goes to
show that you have to step in quick and hard at tachi-ai.

Kotomitsuki: (Winning with a henka move but what the hey) I didn't
want to receive his [tachi-ai] hit directly . . . I suppose the
quality of sumo is important, too. [But, to paraphrase Gertrude
Stein, a win is a win is a win].

Ama: (Better get going or it's komusubi instead of ozeki) I hurt my
left foot in the bout against Kisenosato. It's painful even when I
walk but I am not going to use that as an exuse. I am just going to
have to gambarize.

Tochiozan: (Still a bit reflective despite winning the big battle
against Homasho) I had wanted to go through with the oshi attack, but
I couldn't help myself when I did that pull maneuver.

Kasugano Oyakata: Tochiozan's shisho: (Evaluating his streaking
deshi) He is still a bit wet behind the ears and his sumo used to be
somewhat rough-hewn. However, he has gotten a lot more calm and
settled recently.

Goeido: (Saved by a dubious mono-ii and torinaoshi which he won with
a pull-down) I thought I may have lost the first one. My sumo wasn't
good at all.

Takamisakari: (Amazed at Baruto's brute strength) Imagine pulling off
a tsuri move from that position . . . [sigh]

More Robo: (Asked why he didn't attack from the side) I am a firm
believer of the frontal assault. I wouldn't do anything dastardly like that.

Bart Sez

Baruto: (Making Robo look like C3P0) [It's my third time against him
so] I no longer find his act curious or amusing. The first time I had
to laugh, wondering what the heck the guy's doing.

Quote of the Day

Chiyotaikai: (Watching Asashoryu do his thing) That guy is pretty
awesome. If you compare the two of us, he is a brand new muscle car
and I am a jalopy needing re-certification. I suppose it would really
be great if I could achieve kachi-koshi tomorrow.

Minanosato, the yumitori performer: (Having to pick up the bow he
dropped with his foot) This is the first time I have dropped the bow.
I'm glad it didn't fly into the spectators' seats. I had a bad omen
earlier today, so I even practiced retrieving the bow with my with feet.
