provided and translated, as usual, by MADOROSUMARU:

****************

Asashoryu: (Yanking down new komusubi Takekaze) I am not very
familiar with that guy. I didn't know what he would come up with, so
I watched him closely.

More Ryu: (Failing in his hari-zashi attempt) I didn't try to force
matters and just followed the flow [of the bout]. I remained calm and
collected throughout.

Even more Ryu: (Far more excited about musubi-no-ichiban) Wow! What
great sumo! I really enjoyed that. It's really good to see exciting
sumo like that.

Yet more Ryu: (On the upcoming challenge from Wakanoho) I'll worry
about that tomorrow. Right now, I am going to eat something delicious
and get some good rest.

Final Ryu: (Asked if he was going out for some turtle, a delicacy
known for providing energy) Look, guys, I'm more genki than the suppon.

Hakuho: (Having a devil of time with the supercharged Kisenosato) I
got a bit upset when he jumped the gun at tachi-ai. For the first
time in a long time, I lost my cool. I managed to circle around
pretty well at the edge of dohyo. I finally got hold of the mawashi
at the very end. Yes, I did feel I was in danger.

More Hakuho: (On his less than ideal sumo) My attack wasn't very
good. [Did I do two days' worth of running around?] Yeah. [bitter smile]

Kisenosato: (To say he was upset would be an understatement) Aaargh.
Damn and tarnation. I am so pissed. The guy somehow managed to
withstand my attack. It was oh so damn close. I guess I still have a
way to go.

Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Observing the battle ensue from his lofty perch
on Mt. Ozumo) He sure had a scare. Still, it's winning the close,
tough ones that leads to yusho.

Kotomitsuki: (On his continued miserable sumo) I did have an inkling
of [possible] henka in my mind. If only I could have been able to
stop, but I couldn't.

Bit more Mickey: (Are you a man or a mouse) To tell the truth, I
don't have any confidence.

Kotooshu: (Matching his heya-mate in abject futility) [ . . .]

Bit of Osh: (Pressed about his physical and mental condition) I don't know.

Chiyotaikai: (Wonderful tsuki-oshi against ozeki-killer Kakuryu) He
is someone that has been improving rapidly, so I paid extra care.

More Taikai: (On needing only two more wins to escape kadoban) One
can say anything when he is winning, but, hey, I've been through this
before. It's nothing that would affect me psychologically.

Kaio: (Using his whole body in pushing down Ama) I thought, if I had
the chance, I would go on an all-out attack.

More Kaio: (Admitting he had a bit of a hard time disposing of the
little pest) I couldn't grab hold of him and was wondering what the
heck to do, but I was able to use my body and press forward. I am
moving well this basho.

Homasho: (Enduring Wakakirin's ferocious harite attack before pushing
him out) I was moving well so I could keep with the flow. I feel that
I am getting my good form back.

More Homey: (On his seven-bout winning streak) Things are almost
going too well. I feel the proper amount of tension. There is the
matter of momentum so I don't want to let down and lose it.

Even more Homey: (Watching Sakaizawa get knocked out from dohyo side)
Geez, that was scary. I had to pull myself together [for my bout].

Onoe Oyakata, Sakaizawa's shisho: (On his deshi who was knocked cold
by a Kakizoe harite) He is fully conscious now, but he is feeling
pain in his left knee [ligament damage]. I think it would be unlikely
for him to get on the dohyo tomorrow.

Tochiozan: (Keeping his undefeated streak alive) There is a certain
amount of tension each and every day. I am able to move forward
properly. The quality of my sumo is quite good.

Takamisakari: (Sending the crowd into a frenzy with another Perils of
Pauline act) When he forced me back [to the edge], I thought it was
all over. But, somehow, I was able to survive that. At first, we
weren't in the yotsu position I liked, but when we got into
migi-yotsu, I was able to attack with abandon.

More Robocop: (On his over-the-top behavior) It appears, even to me,
that I am about to go off the edge. So, I keep telling myself, "Stay
calm, dude. Keep cool."

Even more Robo: (It's been five years since he had such a good start)
Things are going almost too well that it's scary.

Hokutoriki: (Losing to Wakanoho when his tsuki attempt at tachi-ai
failed) I got sucked into a yotsu position. I guess I'll just have to
start all over tomorrow.

Wakanoho: (On having to face The Big Honcho next) I haven't even done
keiko against him. I'm looking forward to it. I am going to hit hard
at tachi-ai and hope I can get a hold of the mawashi.

Tochinonada: (Finally getting his first victory) It's only one win.
That was a desperation nage. The young guys from the heya [like
Tochiozan, Tochinoshin and Kimurayama] are all doing well, so an
over-30 geezer has to gambarize, too.

Quote of the Day

Miyabiyama: (The irrepressible Blobmonster is back with his second
win) When I desperately needed the first win, I ate at "Yakiniku Ichi
Ryu." Yesterday, I wanted to order something with "two" in it, but
there wasn't anything. But, I suppose, the double shot of shochu did the trick.
