from MADOROSUMARU

***************************

Asashoryu: (Pushing out Miyabiyama in a jiffy) I felt he would come
with a thrust attack, so I went for a quick front mawashi grab. I
thought my tachi-ai was quite good.

More Ryu: (Watching Hakuho get ambushed from dohyo side) Both
yokozuna couldn't lose consecutively. I felt I needed to brace up and
get my act together.

Even more Ryu: (Marking a makuuchi appearance milestone) 600 already?
I am glad I won. I really don't have time to think of those thing, you know.

Yet more Ryu: (Speaking like a model yokozuna) It's still only Day 4.
One day at a time. One bout at a time.

Hakuho: (Saying he was upset would be an understatement) I came to do
some sumo. I wonder what he came for. I really feel sorry for the spectators.

More Hakuho: (Sarcastically, when asked if he had any notion of what
was to come) Obviously, not. How else could it turn out so badly.

Even more Hakuho: (Ruefully) I sure fell for that one.

Aminishiki: (Mon Ami does his turn as toreador) My intention was to
turn him to the side, [but then] he fell down. I sort of feel bad
about that. [Not!!!]

More Ami: (His knee injury played a part in his decision to henka)
Maybe, I'll go kyujo starting tomorrow. [laugh] But, seriously, once
I got on the dohyo, I was so focused I didn't feel the pain.

Even more Ami: (Playing the part of the stirrer-upper) The yusho race
has gotten more interesting, hasn't it?

Hanaregoma Oyakata: (Not knowing whether to laugh or cry) That, [mon
ami], is what we call a "surprise attack."

Kitanoumi Rijicho: (Echoing Head Shimpan's sentiment) He was
careless. He just got caught napping.

More Rijicho: (Monday morning quarterbacking) He would have been okay
if he went with tsuppari.

Chiyotaikai: (Watching critically from the front row) The yokozuna is
at a disadvantage because he is lumbering. [His feet just couldn't
keep up at tachi-ai].

Kaio: (Unleashing his trademark kote-nage against Kisenosato) That
was out of desperation. I don't have the strength I had in the old days.

More Kaio: (First win after three straight losses against GNH) I need
to win once in a while.

Kisenosato: (Falling victim to the dreaded "Armbreaker") [Ouch!]

Kotooshu: (Upset about what seemed to be an abbreviated shikiri
period) The yobidashi told me it was time and handed me a towel. It
got me all flustered.

Kakuryu: (Not as upset since he won) I was really surprised. But, the
ozeki stood up, so . . . [sheepish smile]

Kotomistsuki: (Finally a victory) At asa-geiko, I got some advice
from Kotoshogiku [who knows Toyonoshima well]. It wasn't exactly
ideal sumo, but [by winning] I feel a lot more relaxed.

More Mickey: (Taking his time against Toyonoshima even though he had
good position) I hadn't been able to win even when I was in [my
preferred] migi-yotsu, so I was too scared to make any moves.

Takekaze: (Having lost his tenth in a row to nemesis Ama) It's not
that I find him difficult [style-wise]. His moves are all pretty much
within my expectations. It's just that he is a grade or two better
[at sumo] than I am.

Homasho: (A nice start after a few forgettable basho) As you pile up
the wins, you get more confidence. Little by little, I am getting my
sumo back. [Unlike last basho] I am able to do what I want to do.

More Homey: (Still somewhat dissatisfied with his reliance on the
pull-down) I need to hit harder and press forward.

Tochiozan: (Another one with a good start after some lackluster
basho) I hadn't been able to do my sumo for quite a while. I've been
left behind [by my rival Goeido], so I'd like to catch up as quickly as I can.

Takamisakari: (Power-lifting Kaiho out of the ring despite a bloody
nose for his fourth straight) I'm a bit relieved [by winning a tough
one]. I really got flustered when he got morozashi and forced me to
the edge. That uchi-gake was bad scene. I was fortunate to win. [That
powerful finish?] It's a case of adrenaline rush.

More Robo: (Asked if the newly-added leg movements in his
"performance act" help strengthen him for dohyo-edge stands) I sure hope so.

Azumazeki Oyakata: (On the hordes of women who want to marry Robocop)
That guy is so shy that he can't make any moves on his own. We have a
terrible time getting any relationship going.

Even more Robo: (On being a successor candidate when oyakata retires
next year) I plan to stay active until my body falls into pieces.

Kaiho: (Losing to fellow Aomorian despite a good effort) My upper
body was too high. I did try that desperation leg trip . . . That guy
was his usual self. He never changes.

Otsukasa: (On a roll with four straight wins) My thoughts are in
perfect synch with my body.

More Otsu Potsu: (On being the oldest in makuuchi at 37) I am not
that concerned about my age. Everyone else is younger than me, simple
as that. [For me] the battle has just begun.

Bart Sez

Baruto: (Ousting Iwakiyama with a grand whirling move) You know that
[ride] they have at Disneylandthe one that goes round and round.

Quote of the Day

Aminishiki: (Jokes galore after waylaying the yokozuna) It's gonna be
tough serving as his sword holder starting tomorrow.
