[sumo] Peter Harmer's Post

I could not agree with Peter more! A couple of years ago ,many of
here wrote to NHK regarding the bilingual broadcasts.

From information here, as well as other Sumo forums and resources on
the internet, I recall the effects of all those letters and emails:

1. The NHK people were "stunned" by the extent of the sumo information
on the web at sites such as sumoforum.net.
2. The English language broadcasts were not only retained but
3. The broadcasts were expanded by half an hour!
4. In a "coincidental" (?) occurrence, Tomozuna-Beya opened and English
language web site specifically so foreign fans could write to the
Rikishi in English. Those of you who listen have heard the
English language NHK announcer say more than once that Ozeki Kaio
receives & reads the emails sent to him.

Perhaps these were indeed coincidences. Perhaps my mail or your did not
matter. But, what TRUE LOVER of Ozumo would be crazy enough to find out
by not writing in this time?
Last time, it was requested by some who do not often write such letters
that I post a "sample letter" for them to use or refer to when
composing their own.

I ask Peter to post the same now, as his writing is obviously
excellent. All too often things like this do not get done because of
difficulty in getting started. How about it, Peter? Give those who
want it, a good start!

Best Regards,
