Rikishi Talk Nagoya Day 02 (Jonosuke)

Masatsukasa

-----------
(Overcoming the death of his oldest son in May and earning his first win
in Makuuchi)
"I am happy, No question about it but it only means winning only one
bout. But each win will here give me some consolation."

Kokkai
-------
(His first time assuming a role of Tsuyuharai in Yokozuna Dohyo-iri)
"I spent longer than usual, half an hour shaving my face today. I took
so long to come down from the dohyo, the yokozuna had to wait for me."

Takamisakari
------------
(Letting Kyokutenho to get both uwate, losing decisively.)
"I got into a Moro-zashi position but he had a full advantage. I got to
the right mawashi quickly after the tachiai but he promptly got the
uwate..."
(Being from northern Aomori, never a fan of Nagoya's overbearing
overwhelming heat)
"It's extremely tough. Just getting outside you feel the humidity and
all that heat that comes from 36 degree C. In night I put on a timer to
put an air condition on for about two hours as I don't want to have it
all night. Training sessions are a real killer every day."
(Reminded that at the last year's summer jungyo training session,
becoming faint from heat, hit a window with his head and suffering a gush)
"Ah...I don't even want to think about that. Please forget about it
altogether."
"By the way I went out with a supporter for drinking last night. But you
know I hate to go on drinking in a time like this. You never know I
could go off the edge totally."

Wakanosato
----------
(Finally climbed up to Maegashira 4 and starting with two consecutive wins)
"As I am bound to face against top ranked rikishi, it would never be
easy but I am hoping I can keep going with a good flow."

Toyonoshima
-----------
(Being tenacious pays off as he pushed Kaio down at the dohyo edge
scooping up a win)
"Actually quality wise I lost the bout today. I was basically losing 90%
but I hated to give up that easily."
(On facing Kotooshu having a handicap of 30 cm height)
"I will have to go full out so I can get a win deserving of Shukun-sho."

Kaio
----
"I believe I was moving but I need to move forward and go after the
opponent more aggressively."

Chiyotaikai
-----------
(Winning two straight)
"I am simply pouring my whole energy with urgency into each day's bout."

Ama
----
(Even though displaying a powerful uwate-nage, showing a remorse)
"Throwing around your opponent never amounts to good sumo. What would be
the point of doing all that hard training for?"

Kotomitsuki
-----------
(Managing to avoid four consecutive loss against Kisenosato by
unleashing his own brand of henka)
"I can't go out and grab the mawashi so instead I went out to get an uwate."

Kisenosato
-----------
(Easily allowing Kotomitsuki to get into a morozashi)
"Ah...I had a feeling he'd come up with something like that today too.
But nothing went well. Really awful sumo. Really."

Kotooshu
---------
"I was only thinking to move forward. Once I back down it would have
been the other guy's sumo."
(Asked if he refreshed his mind completely from the day 1)
"Not totally. You really can't"

Kitanoumi oyakata, chairman of the Kyokai
-----------------------------------------
(On Kotooshu)
"Well he did extend his hands as if to push his opponent up from below.
That's a little sign coming from him when he is doing well."

Sadogatake oyakata, Kotooshu's shisho
-------------------------------------
(On Kotosohu feeling the pressure)
"Ever since they announced he was set to face Aminishiki on Day 1, he
didn't show up to eat a chanko with others. He went straight into his
own room. It must have been so much pressure that he couldn't even eat."
"Yesterday I told him he didn't win because he wasn't eating. Then he
came down to eat a BBQ Eel rice bowl I cooked for him and some cream
stew. Now you see the result today."

Wakanoho
--------
(For a moment showing he could compete but losing miserably at the end)
"Ah,,,I couldn't get the mawashi. You get a real sense of his strength
when you are on the dohyo with him."

Asashoryu
---------
(Though escaping two consecutive losses, still not showing his
overwhelming strength)
"I still was thinking about the yesterday's bout so I moved
deliberately. I am not going out as quickly as I want. I am still not
getting everything together yet. My tachiai is OK but I don't jump out
quickly enough. I will need to search for something I don't have."
"You never believe this but I caught a cold, I am going to a clinic to
get a shot right now."

Record:
Homasho - Makuuchi 100th win
