[sumo] OT- Japanese restaurants in NY

Hi, Lynn,

But, Sag Harbor is literally 100 miles from Manhattan! I have not been
within 40 miles of Sag Harbor for 40 years!

Sushi Yasuda, on East 43rd (between 2nd and 3rd). The fish is a step above
everyone else's, but $4.50 per piece of sashimi. Yikes!

Our personal favorite is Suguyama, on West 55th (off 8th Ave, I think): My
wife and I sat at the bar and were so warmly treated by Suguyama, his wife
and all staff. Suguyama told us that Jesse himself (Takamiyama) had sat in
the same two places where we were eating! Not cheap, but sit at the bar for
a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Ise -- West 56th (just east of 6th Ave.). Frequented by Japanese patrons.

Yama, which has several locations around Manhattan and is reasonably good
and generous, for the price.

FYI: NY Hilton now serves a Japanese buffet breakfast -- a variety of
oshinko, and grilled salmon, etc., etc. Beats the heck out of sausage!

PS: Who'll be in LA for the jungyo? I still haven't seen tickets go on
sale....

Best for 2008, everyone!

Chuck
