[sumo] Dreadful Commercialism of Sumo - let's change the subject
line to: Let the Basho Start!

I am both mortified and thrilled by this thread! All JimBit did was mention
an advertisement with a photo of Konishiki, and then I helped develop it
into an endless thread of misinformation, corrections and apologiies.
This is a sure sign that a basho is about to start! Time for us to declare
our envy of those who will be at the Kokugikan during the next couple of
weeks. If that's you, please do a little breakdance or moonwalk on the
hanamichi, for those of us watching on TV. Or at least wear a hat covered
in tin foil.
As for me, in my endless investigation Japanese restaurants, I have found
one in midtown Manhattan at which all the shelves behind the bar are covered
with half-consumed bottles of shochu, whose owners' names have been affixed
with masking tape. Lucky me!
