I don't think this has anything to do with 'sumo knowledge', just common sense.

The picture will only be put up there if the powers that be allow it
to be put there.  The fact that it is there means that the powers that
be allowed (or 'gave permission', if you prefer) it to be put there.

I believe that Doreen (who is one of the few genuine reasons to remain
subscribed to this mailing list) was not being malicious with her
comment, but was assuming that you were really making a joke rather
than any alternative possibility.

Please credit her with that, rather than assuming that she was trying
to 'ridicule' you in any way.
