Yes, it is like many things in the language these days*.
It is not what it is.... To paraphrase

People who know sumo may know which is the real ³grand sumo² tournament,
but in the spirit of keeping some semblance of true meaning, for those who
want to and need to learn from the list, I wanted to put that in.

The ³real² tournament is truly grand, way different in spirit and meaning
from the rest. It is too bad that the JSA doesn't understand/ doesn't care
to keep the distinction alive. I believe it is important, if the real sumo,
the true grand tournaments, are to keep their dignity and importance. The
rest is just entertainment. ( Of course there is nothing wrong with that).

(* like all the TV shows these days- even my favorite CSI, where the actors
are scripted to say things like
³ He wouldn¹t talk to Kevin and I².... f¹godssake, where are the language
editors?? If it is on TV then everyone will mutilate the language.)
