Yes I think that is the most obvious explanation too.  It has to be 
either the rikishi themselves who are figuring out the newcomer, or the 
oyakata, who supply the coaching.

But at this point, maybe we can predict the future.  If Goeido has a 
very limited bag of tricks, he will be easy to coach against.  His 
rocketing to the top could be followed by a meteoric fall right back 
down again.  If he has decent fundamentals, that might protect him 
against a bad fall.  On the other hand, if he really is a multitalented 
genius, he might not fall at all, but hold his place and maybe even 
advance again.

So the question is - is he a minor talent who got lucky, a solid rikishi 
we can expect to stay in Makuuchi, or a genuine prodigy we can imagine 
to make it to the sanyaku in the near future?

Between bashos, if I have time, maybe I will do a web page with videos 
focusing on Goeido's bouts last basho, and add some of my usual 
opinionated commentary, and leave it up as a way to study this new guy.
Might be fun.
