At the regular post basho Yokozuna Deliberation
Committee meeting held on September 24, yokozuna
Asashoryu's shisho, Takasago oyakata apologized once
again to the committee members for the disturbance
Asashoryu has caused since the last basho. He also
reported on the current treatments Asashoryu has been
receiving and his future prospect.
According to the committee chairman, Katsuji Ebisawa,
Asashoryu is "recovering well from a mental condition
(diagnosed as Dissociative Identity Disorder) and now
concentrating on his elbow and lower back injuries".
"Once we are in October, I will be discussing with
Asashoryu to determine the date of his return to Japan
and a possible date for a press conference," Takasago
oyakata said. The oyakata indicated that Asashoryu
expressed his desire to apologize for his conduct. "He
also explained that he was trying to get back into
shape to prepare for the Hatsu basho."
"I'd like him to analyze his conduct and express his
view as yokozuna sincerely and without pretense,"
Ebisawa added. Several committee members requested for
the detailed reports of
hist treatment procedures and processes as well as
telling Takasago oyakata he should inform
himself more on the nature of Asashoryu's private
manager and dotor's visits to Mongolia.
Ebisawa also expressed he would like to see ozeki
rikishi rebound with more vigor in the Kyushu basho. "
Kotoosho finished with 8 wins and 7 losses. I want him
to come up with a much better effort. Overall I really
like to see ozeki rikishi to improve their records
significantly."

Yokozuna Hakuho met reporters at Miyagino beya for a
yusho rikishi interview on September
24. "I have been able to sleep so well last night.
It's been a while I slept this well."
"I had really rough time this basho. As I lost on day
1, I needed to constantly chasing the leaders and that
can be really tough when you were expected to be
leading," Hakuho said. "I woke up 9 AM today so I feel
good this morning."
"Especailly in the latter part of the basho, I had
this recurring thought that I could not afford to lose
anymore, not even one bout. I felt my body was not
reacting and responding in a way I wanted," Hakuho
added. "Literally, I really could not afford to lose
to a guy who just came up in
Makunouchi today."
Asked his thought on the Kyushu basho as he will once
again be the lone yokozuna, he said as the youngsters
have been gaining more strength, together with them he
would like to make it an exciting basho everyone can
enjoy watching. "Of course I will be aiming for the
yusho,"
Hakuho added.
Hakuho will be flying to Mongolia on September 25 and
is scheduled to perform his Shiranui
dohyo-iri at a large plaza in Ulaanbaator accompanied
by Tsuyuharai Ryuo and Tachimochi
Kyokutenho. He is expected to be back in Japan on
September 29.
