Ichihara (4-0, Makushita East 1) over Tochinoshin by
hikiotoshi
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Winning his fourth straight and getting kachi-koshi
as Makushita East 1 and a step closer to sekitori)
(Failed to get a Juryo promotion despite getting
kachi-koshi as Makushita West 1 last basho)
"I didn't really feel sorry for myself or anything
like that. I just went back to training from the next
day. I was told from my shisho, as long as I am a
professional, either I do it or I get out."
"I think I am just not lucky as far as banzuke ranking
is concerned so I have to go out and do it all by
myself, not depending on anyone else. Right now I will
be trying hard to get my fifth win this basho. The
result can be only known on the Senshuraku so I really
can't go on celebrating at this point."
"I don't try to think too far ahead and just go with
one bout at a time."

Kise oyakata (former Maegashira 1, Higonumi),
Ichihara's shisho
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Hoping for the first sekitori from his heya very
soon)
"I told him to go out and win all seven. I knew he has
all potentials to go up to Makunouchi sooner or later.
>From a hindsight it was better for him not to go up
there too quickly but rather build a solid physique
and mental make up right now.."

Goeido (6-1) over Ryuo by oshidashi
-------------------------------------------
"I pulled my opponent in today. I could have lost it
so easily, I needed to be more careful. Fortunately I
was able to remain calm and I am moving well."
(Maintaining one loss record)
"I believe I have done more than what I could hope for
up to this point. I gained more self-confidence. But I
am not looking ahead or above. "

Kyokutenho (6-1) over Kasuganishiki by yorikiri
---------------------------------------------------------
(Keeping one loss record and asked about his yusho
chance)
"Oh, com'on give me a break. You can't be serious. It
ain't happening."
"To be honest when I was handed down my suspension, I
felt like not doing anything at all but my shisho
drove me on. I did a morning and evening training
session every day. I tell you I haven't done both for
a long long time up to then. When I came back at the
Nagoya, some people thought I quit already. I felt so
bad. But I was so determined to let them know I am
still around."
"But now at least I can show my appreciation and
making all those people who have supported me
throughout my suspension happy."

Kasugao (6-1) over Hakurozan by oshidashi
---------------------------------------------------
(Normally a Migi-yotsu style but today pushed
Hakuhozan all the way out of the dohyo)
"I figured if I could hit him straight on, I wouldn't
get turned side way or half way."
"What I am aiming for is kachi-koshi first and
foremost. I've had three make-koshi in a row so all I
am trying is not to think about anything else except
to move forward and I know that will lead me into the
next.."

Tochiozan (4-3) over Takamisakari by yorikiri
------------------------------------------------------
"It's been a while I have been able to move this well.
"
(Asked what he did to change his fortune around during
his losing streak like going out for a big night out.)
"Nothing like that at all. I just stayed at the Heya
and went to be early."

Takamisakari (2-5) losing to Tochiozan
---------------------------------------------
(Feeling mounting pressure as he is seeing a demotion)
"I am losing to a kid. I had a good sumo yesterday but
still lost. What should I be doing now?"
"If I start losing bit, I am afraid I'd be totally
crushed and will never recover from it. "
(Asked if there was anything wrong physically)
"I don't know. Maybe somewhere within me I don't know
about."
"I wonder if I should go shopping or something
different now. I have to do something to change this
thing turned around."

Toyohibiki (5-2) over Toyonoshima by tsukiotoshi
-----------------------------------------------------------
(Crushing small Toyonoshima down with no mercy)
"I was able to see his feet lined up at the dohyo
edge, so I pushed him down with everything I had."
(Won 11 bouts in his Makunouchi debut last basho)
"That really gave me confidence and it's really
helping me out this basho."
"I come from exactly the same place where just
resigned Prime Minister Abe is from. Everyone over
there is really feeling low now. But even if he did
pull out, I won't. I will never give up my dream. I
have something to give back to my home town of Toyoura
(in Shimonoseki City Yamaguchi Prefecture) and my
mother, Toyomi, who raised me all by herself. I've
done nothing except sumo until I graduate from Hibiki
High School there. After the graduation I worked as a
truck driver, worked in a shipbuilding factory, but
because I joined Ozumo for my mother and my town as
well. I cannot give up that easily."
"My hero is former ozeki Musoyama-zeki. one day I hope
to become as successful as he was. As far as sumo
bouts are concerned, I don't remember ever being
scared or nervous."

Fujishima oyakata (former ozeki Musoyama)
---------------------------------------------------
(On Toyohibiki)
"He has a good spirit, a nerve of steel. He does not
waver in his sumo. He has the strong core. He reminds
me of an old time sumo rikishi."

Toyonoshima (4-3) losing to Toyohibiki
-----------------------------------------------
"My left arm is totally numb like someone hit me hard
with some blunt object. I've tried to do a
Kata-sukashi but it had no effect because he was
coming in with so much force and pressure."

Kisenosato (3-4) over Ama by oshidashi
-------------------------------------------------
(Taking care of Ama with powerful Ottsuke)
"I know he can get real sticky once he gets the
mawashi. This was a very satisfying win in quite some
time."

Tokitsuumi (0-7) losing to Wakanosato by tsukiotoshi
---------------------------------------------------------------
(Executed a shitate-nage but got squashed down and
suffering his 7th consecutive loss)
"I've done it as if my life depended on it but...."

Homasho (4-3) over Miyabiyama by hatakikomi
-----------------------------------------------------------
(Lifting Miyabiyama up after he tried to push him
away)
"I got the slapdown well executed because I was able
to push forward."

Tokitenku (1-6) losing to Aminishiki by tsukiotshi
-------------------------------------------------------
(Walked right into Aminishiki's trick sumo)
"Actually he tried to get me jump out first. I am
telling you that was his strategy all along."

Aminishiki (7-0) over Tokittenku
---------------------------------------
(Winning his seven straight with a tachiai henka)
"I didn't plan it that way at all. But after he did a
Matta, I got so tensed and my head went blank."
"I really didn't mean to do it. I have been displaying
such a good sumo up to today and now this."
"I really can't enjoy being on the top nor winning
today. I feel really bad."
"I can tell you, I will go all out in the next one.
You neve know, but I might even fall flat on my
face..."
(Aminishiki has been training at a Tokyo Ueno's
bodybuilding gym, Sunplay, for the last three years to
strengthen his muscles to ease the pressure to his
injured knee. This is the same gym,Takamisakari,
Satoyama and former rikishi Sentoryu train.)

Dejima (3-4) over Kotooshu by sukuinage
--------------------------------------------------
(Suffering a concussion after Kotooshu's slap to his
face but still won)
"I really don't remember it well. All I remember is
what happened at the end. When you are told how
precarious I was till then, it sounds so awful but I
really don't remember. Actually I still feel foggy and
I don't have a clear head."
"But it's always nice to see your win keep
accumulating. "

Kotooshu (5-2) losing to Dejima
-------------------------------------
(Forgetting the iron rule of sumo - when thrown, fall
down from your head first. Not in a mood to say
anything today)
"............."

Chiyotaikai (6-1) over Kakuryu by tsukidashi
-------------------------------------------------------
"I tried to go with a tachiai to stop him for stepping
in hard as once he comes in strong, he can start using
his mawahi moves. I wasn't feeling that badly about
the win but..."
(Can't shake of malaise since the beginning of the
basho)
"I've been getting an IV every day. You can see I am
looking so weak, right?"

Kotomitsuki (5-2) over Hokutoriki by yorikiri
---------------------------------------------------
(Even perfectly settled into his favorite Migi-yotsu
against an oshi-zumo specialist, kept hesitating to
take any intiatives)
"He was much heavier than I imagined. I thought if I
forced it, he would have come down with a Tsukiotoshi
at the dohyo edge so I moved in against him very
deliberately/"

Kotoshogiku (3-4) losing to Hakuho by yorikiri
------------------------------------------------------
"I did everything I could like I tried to resist him
by attempting Ottsuke from left but I couldn't do any
of my sumo. I had a good tachiai but I just got
overpowered."

Hakuho (6-1) over Kotoshogiku
-------------------------------------
"I went in to get the uwate but I got into a
moro-zashi. Once you are in that position, the only
thing you could do is to move forward. I feel I am
responding well to my opponent's moves."
"Not sure how I got myself into such a quick sumo
today but I am moving forward without thinking. Quick
sumo is always good. I feel so good about it."
"Every day I am feeling this rank (of yokozuna) is so
awesome. The dohyo-iri exhausts me as if I had three
bouts. Every other rikishi tries every trick in the
book to beat you. I know how much they want to beat me
but I am approaching them with the same. I've done a
lot of training so that is giving me more confidence.
I feel I am focusing well on each bout."

According to a report from Mongolia, Asashoryu has
gone for a hotspring treatment for the four straight
days. "Personally I have not received any
confirmantion or had any direct contact, but I imagine
he's gone there again today," Takasago oyakata said.
"My understanding is that he will continue till Monday
and then assess what treatment will be required after
that."

The Kyokai announced the dates for Winter Jyungyo. If
Asashoryu recovers from his injury and illness, this
would be his first Kyokai event since the suspension:

December 2 - Bungo Ono City Oita Prefecture (at Ohara
Sogo Taiikukan)
December 3 - Yanagawa City Fukuoka Prefecture (at
Yanagawa City Taiikukan)
December 4 - Amakusa City Kumamoto Prefecture (at
Ushibuka Sogo Taiikukan)

"We were hoping to get more request for Jungyo,
considering it will be the first one after Asashoryu's
return but that had no effect whatsoever." Oshima
oyakata said. "Since he cannot win unless he trains so
I hope he can show more training sessions at the
Jyungyo tour and be available for more events and
shows for the fans."
