Goeido (5-1) over Kitazakura by yorikiri, 3.2 seconds
---------------------------------------------------------------
(Overwhelming hapless Kitazakura)
"This was the best bout I had in the last six days.
All I am hoping for is that I can always compete like
today."
(Getting his first kensho envelope but botched it up
royally)
"I started moving my hand way before the gyoji walked
over to me. I mishandled it really good."
(Asked about how he will be spending it)
"Oh, I will just deposit it into my bank account."

Kyokutenho (5-1) over Hakurozan by yorikiri, 10.4
seconds
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(Losing to Roho the day before but beating Hakurozan
today)
"I'd be crying all over if I lost to the brothers
consecutively."
(Celebrating his 33rd birthday one day late with a
win)
" I actually ate a bit of cake yesterday. Obviously if
I won, I'd have eaten a lot more."

Takamisakari (2-4) losing to Kokkai by yoritaoshi, 9.0
seconds
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Already suffering his fourth loss)
"I wanted to hit him hard and get a yori. But I can't
get the left mawashi in however hard I try."
"I wonder if I can no longer cut it anymore...."

Kasugao (5-1) losing to Takekaze by oshidashi, 14.0
seconds
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"I almost got him. He just vanished right out of my
horizon when I attempted a throw."
(Suffering the first loss)
"Actually I wasn't thinking about the winning streak
much. I figured I was just happened to be lucky. I
just want to get kachi-koshi quickly now."

Toyohibiki (4-2) over Tokitsuumi by oshidashi, 2.6
seconds
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(Winning by his favorite oshi-zumo)
"I was able to do exactly what I wanted today. I was
only trying to stop him from coming in to me with my
left arm and with my right, I went after his throat. I
think the best thing so far is I can focus only in
having a good tachiai."

Kotoshogiku (3-3) over Miyabiyama by oshitaoshi, 25.9
seconds
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Escaping from a losing streak)
"I am so happy. I definitely wanted to get a win
soon."

Miyabiyama (4-2) losing to Kotoshogiku
-----------------------------------------------
"I just couldn't finish him off. I almost pushed him
out several times but then once he stayed in, I lost
the winning edge."

Ama (4-2) over Kakuryu by watashikomi, 12.9 seconds
------------------------------------------------------------------
(Finishing all his ozeki and yokozuna bouts and now
it's a clear sailing.)
"I am not tired at all yet because I have been
sleeping so wel."

Aminishiki (6-0) over Dejima by oshitaoshi, 6.8
seconds
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(Getting out of tachiai quicker than a speeding train)
"When my opponent was putting his hands down, I was
already up. He has been doing his shikiri so
leisurely, I was even prepared for him to do a Matta.
I wanted to get it over as quickly as possible."
"I am staying calm so much that I can even view myself
objectively. This has never happened to me before."
"It feels so good to be on top. I want to savor the
moment for a little longer. After all this rarely
happens to me, you know."

Chiyotaikai (5-1) over Tokitenku by hikiotoshi, 3.0
seconds
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(Another pull, another win)
"I am happy I didn't lose consecutively. 800th
Makuuchi appearence? Hmm...that's 10 years. But when
you are doing ozeki for 8 years, that's nothing
surprising. If I didn't have kyujo, I' had more."

Kotomitsuki (4-2) losing to Asasekiryu by yorikiri,
29.1 seconds
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The old Kotomitsuki coming back, suffering
disappointing second loss)
"I had a good tachiai and my right hand in but....I
tried to get a better grip on the left mawashi but
that made it worse. I know I should have been more
aggressive."

Asasekiryu (3-3) over Kotomitsuki
-----------------------------------------
"I am well aware that the ozeki is an expert
Migi-yotsu rikishi, so I intentionally tried to get
into a hidari-yotsu position. I tried to really stay
low today."
"I am really happy. I feel so good knowing I beat an
ozeki today. Hopefully I can display a sumo like today
from tomorrow on."

Tochinonada (2-4) over Kaio by fusen
--------------------------------------------
(Earning his 10th fusen win)
"I must admit that I really did not want to face him
today as I knew he was incapacitated. For myself, a
win is
a win though."
(Was told he became the second most fusen win holder,
next to Dewanishiki's 11, in sumo history since the
1927 October basho when the fusen system was
introduced)
"Oh, is that right?"

Kaio (1-5) losing to Tochinonada by fusen
--------------------------------------------------
(Diagnosed to have muscle damages to his left thigh,
requiring two weeks of rest. Going on kyujo to prepare
for the do-or-die Kyushu)
"I heard a snap when I tried to step on hard yesterday
(day 5). The pain is significantly worse one day
later. I do not want to drag this injury I suffered
back in the Nagoya any longer. I keep feeling my leg
gets pulled. For now I will rest it for a while and
then I will decide what treatment to take. Regardless
I will be focusing solely on having this injury
treated completely and to come back fully recovered
from it. I will be approaching the Kyushu basho
prepared to retire if I am unable to produce the
result."

Tomozuna oyakata, Kaio's shisho
----------------------------------------
"He told me himself he would come back the next basho
with his rikishi future on line. But I can tell you
right now, if he ends up displaying sumo like he has
done this basho, I intend to tell him myself to
retire."

Hokutoriki (1-5) losing to Kotoohu by yorikiri, 2.6
seconds
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"The bout turned into my worst sumo of this basho. I
hit him hard at the tachiai but I let him get to my
awashi."

Kotooshu (5-1) over Hokutoriki
------------------------------------
(Asked if he was no longer wavering at tachiai)
"No, none at all, so far."
"He is an oshi-zumo rikishi so I tried not to step
back and stepped in harder. I tried to stop him for
getting into his sumo style."

Kitanoumi oyakata, Kyokai chairman
------------------------------------------
On Kotooshu)
"He is not doing badly at all. He is hitting hard at
tachiai. When you do that, your arms naturally can
move in from below."

Hakuho (5-1) over Kisenosato by yorikiri, 1.7 second
---------------------------------------------------------------
(Unable to get his tachiai rhythm right and unable to
hide his temper)
"I got really upset with him. Like I wanted to tell
him to get the taichiai right."
(On the extra shove at the end)
"I may have got myself carried away too much. He
didn't want to try to get his tachiai timing right. It
was just too much. Anyway, it's enough already, let's
move on."

Mihogaseki oyakata, chief dohyo judge
----------------------------------------------
(Ordering back both after Hakuho easily pushed out
Kisenosato in their third try)
"Kisenosato didn't even put his hands down. The
tachiai wasn't established at all."
"The simple fact was that these two did not try to
match their timing against one another."

Tochiazuma oyakata
-------------------------
(On the third failed tachiai attempt)
"If the musubi ended up like that, we would have
utterly disappointed the fans."

++++++++++++++++

- Asashoryu has gone to the hotspring facility again
with his older brother and parents today and had a one
hour and half treatment.
- Kyokai offcials announced that they decided not to
sell Asashoryu bento box this basho at Kokugikan
shops. The box has never been a good seller as the
main item, lamb, is not liked by many fans.
- The officials are also showing a concern that those
companies normally putting a kensho on Asashoryu's
bouts are staying away and the number of kensho
banners may be significantly reduced this basho.
