[sumo] Off topic - Mr. Abe's resignation

The NY Times today had a short article on Shinzo Abe's
resignation.  The latter part of one paragraph and a
caption in a photo stated what has become very clear
during recent list discussions about the Japanese
mentality:

“In the current situation, it will be quite difficult
to forcefully pursue policies based on the people’s
support and trust,” Mr. Abe said, seeming at one point
on the verge of tears and failing — television
commentators and ordinary people alike said critically
— to bow or apologize during his news conference.
