Hakuho will be YE next basho so if both miss the
Kyushu then Hakuho will still be YE.

Hakuho is under a great deal of pressure to fulfill
his responsibility as the lone yokozuna. He is
expected to win the yusho. Anything else is a
disappointment to many.  Unfortunately he will be
constantly compared to Asashoryu both good and bad.

The only way he can be his own man is to beat
Asashoryu decisively when he comes back.  So for that
reason alone he really wants Asashoryu to be back.
