Here is your new banzuke for the Kyushu Basho 2007.

Heruwejima leaves the ranks of the Ozeki and will need a 10-5 performance 
next basho in order to return. Both Akemisamaru and Ulsimitsuki are kadoban 
and will each need a minimum of 8 wins to retain their ranks for January.

There was a bit of a log jam in the mid to upper Makuuchi ranks as I had 
several rikishi contending for the same spots on the banzuke. Flohru and 
Onzoushi_oyakata are going to feel a bit hard done by, not to mention former 
Sekiwake Frinkanohana. This was pretty much the only part of the banzuke 
that really gave me a headache. Everything else slid into place rather 
nicely.

Now for the bad news; we lost another 8 players (including yet another 
former Sekitori) to retirement, either directly or by falling off the 
banzuke. Only one new player joined the game, so there was no way to offset 
that loss. As a result, Makushita has shrunk again, this time down to ms30. 
A lot of the players currently ranked in Jonokuchi were absent last basho 
and could also fall off the banzuke if they fail to show up for the Kyushu 
tournament. So the story of the incredible shrinking banzuke may not be over 
yet. Sigh.

Now for the good news; there were five promotions from Juryo to Makuuchi 
(two debuts and three returnees) and 4 promotions from Makushita to Juryo 
(three sekitori-debuts and one returnee).

Here are the banzuke notes (the banzuke itself is below):

Dimitri earns promotion to Makuuchi for the first time after 20 tournaments 
in the lower ranks, including 9 in Juryo.

Susamajiiraion makes his Makuuchi debut after toiling in the lower ranks for 
15 tournaments.

Zeokage returns to Makuuchi after spending the last two basho in Juryo. It's 
his second promotion to the top division.

Oshirokita returns to Makuuchi after droping out last basho. It's his second 
promotion to the top division, the first coming way back after the 2004 
Natsu basho.

Zentoryu also rejoins the Makuuchi ranks after spending the last two 
tournaments competing in the Juryo division. For him, it is his 4th 
promotion to the top ranks.

Takamueda makes his sekitori debut after 22 tournaments spent in Makushita 
and Jonokuchi.

Bafa also debuts, achieving sekitori status after 20 basho.

Ganzohnesushi rounds out the trio of debutantes, joining the paid ranks 
after 12 basho of trying.

Seki Haruaki is the only returnee, rejoining the Juryo ranks after spending 
the last four tournaments in Makushita.
