We come to the conclusion of the Kyusho Basho of 2007, which is also
RotoSumo's 5th Anniversary Tournament.

M9-12: Roho 128
M13-16: Baruto 139
J1-4: Iwakiyama 91
J5-8: Koryu 70

Points: 1571
MAKUUCHI:
YUSHO: Leonishiki (1st)
Shukon-Sho: Dimitri (1st)
Gino-Sho: Zenjimoto (1st)
Kanto-Sho: Dimitri (1st)
Leonishiki slipped past newly promoted Dimitri on the final day of the
tournament to lay claim to his first ever Yusho after 29 tournaments of
trying. The M4e also denied Dimitri the chance of making RotoSumo history by
winning the Juryo and Makuuchi Yusho in Back-to-Back basho after Dimitri had
won the Juryo crown during September. The M12e fell just two points short of
what would have been an incredible accomplishment.
The Ozeki had some mixed results this basho. Akemisamaru had a strong 11-4
tournament to escape Kadoban status, while Ulsimitsuki was not as fortunate,
going 6-9 and dropping back to Sekiwake. Doitsuyama's team was unable to
pull off a miraculous senshuraku rally to save him, ala last basho. Instead
he finished 7-8 and will be kadoban in January.
Recently demoted Ozeki Heruwejima got the 10 wins needed to return to the
rank and will replace Ulsimitsuki, who himself will need 10 wins in January
to come back to the top rank for March.
Dimitri may have lost out on the Yusho, but can be consoled with two special
prizes. The M12e captured the Shukon-Sho (most 100 point days) by virtue of
having more total points than Anjoboshi, Golynohana and Konizan. The
Kanto-Sho (most raw wins) also went Dimitri's way after his team compiled
111 wins, one more than Akemisamaru's. The Gino-Sho (highest single day
score) went to Zenjimoto for scoring 152 points on day 5.
In another interesting development, Flohru, Frinkanohana and Norizo all
chose identical teams. Without going back to check, I believe this is the
first time that three players in the Makuuchi division, or any division,
chose identical squads. Fortunately, for my own sanity, this trio did not
factor in the Yusho race, but they did achieve their KK's.

JURYO:
YUSHO: Charliki (1st)
Shukon-Sho: Charliki (1st)
Gino-Sho: Kaiomitsuki (2nd)
Kanto-Sho: Charliki (1st)
Charliki joined Leonishiki as a first time Yusho winner, capturing his first
crown in any division after 29 basho of trying. So a big congratulations to
the J4w and soon to be Makuuchi rikishi. Charliki also captured the Juryo
Shukon-Sho and Kanto-Sho outright, putting the finishing touches on a
memorable basho.
Kaiomitsuki took second place overall and won the Gino-Sho.
There appears to be maybe three or four openings in the top division for
next basho. Charliki will fill one of them. Jejima, Gaijingai, Tamanaogijima
and Kofuji will fight over any remaining spots.

Shukon-Sho: Taka (1st)
Gino-Sho: Takanokaze (1st)
Kanto-Sho: Taka (1st)
Taka took the Makushita title by somewhat comfortable margin, 45 points
ahead of the second place duo of Andoreasu and Profomisakari. It's Taka's
first yusho win in any division since taking the Jonokuchi crown back in
Natsu 2004. Taka's 1550 points were also good enough to take the overall
title as the highest scoring RotoSumo player in any division this basho. The
ms8w west captured the Shukon-sho and Kanto-sho to add to his trophy
collection.
