For one thing, all new rikishi do six months in the Kyoshujo (Sumo School),
six mornings a week, where the first half of the morning consists of sumo basic
training, followed by a shower, followed by a lesson; one of the weekly lessons is on
sports medicine and another is on sports physiology. And, since it is their own bodies,
you would probably be surprised at how much they know in physical terms.

Japanese doctors and surgeons who treat sports injuries are a different matter, and it
s common for injured sportsmen who can afford it to go for treatment, especially surgery, abroad.
