Tokitairyuu- 24, 190/120 kilos. Won the Jonidan yusho in his second
basho. Favorite techniques-migi-yotsu/yori. Entered sumo Haru 2006.
Last basho 6-1 at Sandanme 10, promoted to Makushita. He was in
contention for the Sandanme yusho. "Till now I was pretty passive, but
in order not to lose due to stress, I just attack from my head..", he
said. His assertiveness is beginning to show. He was born at the foot of
Bandaisan mountain. In middle school he was a basketball player, but
"when I participated in the local sumo tournaments, I'd get prizes..",
he explained. He started doing real sumo in Aizu agricultural and
forestry school. and went on to Higashi Noudai University. He reached
the top 16 in the All-Japan Championships in 2005. He entered sumo
following another Fukushima boy who went with him through high school
and University, Soutairyuu, who is already in Makushita. "There is
someone I knew before in my heya, and that is reassuring.. He is a good
rival and is like an older brother," he said. He is chasing after
Soutairyuu who has been in Makushita for a while now.
The last Fukushima boy to make it to Juryo is Tamanoshima back in 1999.
No one has become sekitori from his birthplace Inawashiromachi, which is
part of Aizu district, postwar. "I'd like to establish myself in
Makushita, and ease my way up slowly. OTOH, I'd like to meet my
townfolk's expectations and make my parents happy quickly", he said. He
will be racing his ani-deshi to Juryo.
This basho- Makushita 34, his rival Soutairyuu is at Makushita 19.
