The new banzuke for Nagoya 2007 is finally ready for presentation.

In the continuing game of ping-pong amongst the current Ozeki, Heruwejima 
came up with the best record last basho and thus assumes the top spot on the 
banzuke for next basho, avoiding demotion to Sekiwake in the process.

All three Ozeki-promotion candidates fell short in their bids for said 
promotions. Tamanaogijima went 5-10 and dropped out of Sanyaku. Mushi (who 
had the best chance for promotion) missed the basho all together, and 
Ulsimitsuki (who's chances weren't that good to begin with) fell short of 
the required wins, but kept in contention with a 9-6.

Next basho, we have four candidates for Ozeki promotion. Tosahayate has the 
best chance of making it, requiring only 9 wins to reach the required 30. 
Randomitsuki needs 11, Golynohana and Ulsimitsuki will both need a minimum 
of 12 wins. For Ulsimitsuki, next basho will also mark his 20th straight 
tournament in Sanyaku, including his brief run as an Ozeki.

Five rikishi were promoted from Juryo to Makuuchi for next basho. Of those 
five, only one is making his or her top division debut. Sukubidubidu makes 
the jump to the top division for the first time after spending 27 
tournaments in Juryo and the lower divisions. Joining the new M9e are 
Gusoyama, who returns to the top division after 6 basho in Juryo, Asahi, who 
returns after a one basho stint in Juryo, former Ozeki Furanohana, who 
returns to Makuuchi after 1 basho abscence, and Igiski, who returns to 
Makuuchi after a 6 tournament abscence.

Five rikishi were promoted from Makushita to Juryo. Of those five, three are 
making their Sekitori debuts. The debutantes are led by Mabunkiyo, who makes 
it to the Sekitori ranks after spending "only" 10 tournaments in the lower 
ranks. Asashosakari makes his sekitori debut after 23 tournaments, nearly 
four years, from his RotoSumo debut. Not to be outdone, Gunterao is also 
making his debut after an amazing 27 tournaments spent in the lower ranks. 
Congratulations to all the shin-Sekitori.

Returning to the Sekitori ranks are Gaijingai, who comes back after spending 
the last 10 tournaments in Makushita and Jonokuchi, and Rowitoro, who 
returns after 14 tournaments spent in the lower ranks.

A glut of non-kosho abscences and retirements has caused the banzuke to 
shrink yet again, with only 8 ranks left in Jonokuchi.
