Kotomitsuki is a perfect 6-0 this tournament, with a winnable match
against Takamisakari today, an opponent he's defeated 7 out of 10
times. Out of his remaining 9 bouts, I would assume Kotomitsuki needs
another 5 or 6 wins to nail down his ozeki promotion. Of those four
anticipated matches against opponents ranked above him, Kotomitsuki
could afford losses to both yokozuna and either Kaio or Chiyotaikai, and
still achieve this record. And, of those possible remaining lower
ranked opponents, I think a match against Dejima would be telling, the
physical power of Dejima's tachi-ai would challenge Kotomitsuki the
most. Ozeki promotion for Kotomitsuki would be a well deserved
accomplishment, considering his acceptable performance in the sanyaku
ranks (I'd be interested to compare his record to performances of the
current Ozeki over the last few years). It would be great if he could
compete for the yusho this tournament and not go into his second week
disappearing act. If he could demonstrate an ability to routinely
handle the more physical, larger wrestlers and the two yokozuna,
Kotomitsuki might even join Asashoryu and Hakuho at the top within the
next couple of years.
